Description: Until recently, information on students at private colleges in Canada has been limited. Statistics Canada’s Postsecondary Student Information System (PSIS) provides comprehensive data on current and recent students at Canadian colleges and universities that receive funding from a provincial or territorial ministry of education. The PSIS does not cover private colleges. Statistics Canada's Census of Population, another major source of education data, does not distinguish between public and private colleges. However, data on private colleges can be found in tax records. This study uses the T2202 Tuition and Enrolment Certificate tax file to determine the number and characteristics of international students studying at private colleges in Canada.

Description: The series includes analysis on the characteristics of those with elementary-secondary, postsecondary and apprenticeship training. It also features analysis on students’ pathways through the education system and into the labour market-- including findings for different levels of education and fields of study. This research highlights specific groups of interest such as youth, women, men, immigrants, Indigenous people (First Nations people, Métis and Inuit) and visible minorities, and how intersections between these characteristics influence people’s educational experiences. Other topics include access to education; national and international adult performance assessments; use of technology; lifelong learning; and adult education.

Description: This analytical article provides insight on the impact of discontinuing apprenticeship programs on the labor market outcomes of apprentices in Canada. Using Census 2016 data and the Education and Labour Market Longitudinal Platform (ELMLP), this study examines certified journeypersons, continuers, and discontinuers of apprenticeship programs from 2008 to 2013. Labour market outcomes are compared primarily through the rates of employment in industries related to their trade of study and earnings.

Description: Although it is well established that higher levels of educational attainment are generally associated with higher lifetime earnings, and that this varies considerably by field of study, less is known about the actual jobs held by graduates of specific disciplines. The purpose of this short article is to present results from the 2021 Census of Population for doctoral degree graduates. Only individuals who worked during the census reference week (May 2 to 8, 2021) and who completed a Canadian doctoral degree program are included.

Description: This comprehensive data visualization tool overviews counts of enrolments and graduations for elementary to postsecondary education. It also includes the cost of tuition for full-time studies at Canadian degree-granting postsecondary public institutions for the current academic year (September to April). Data for this dashboard is related to the following three surveys: Tuition and Living Accommodation Costs (TLAC), Elementary-Secondary Education Survey (ESES), and the Postsecondary Student Information System (PSIS). Each survey will be released separately at a later date.

For elementary to secondary education, this interactive tool provides an overview of the total enrolment and graduation counts for the five most recent school years. For enrolments, the tool features counts in public schools, private/independent schools, and home-schooling, as well as official languages programs. For graduations, this tool features counts of graduates from secondary schools within public schools or private/independent schools.

For the postsecondary education, this interactive tool features characteristics of students enrolled in, or graduating from postsecondary programs offered in public postsecondary institutions in Canada (such as gender and status of student in Canada). It also provides an overview of program characteristics based on the International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED 2011) and on the Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP Canada 2016 cannabis variant) STEM/BHASE groupings. It also details new enrolments (by gender, age group, and student status) for the most common credential programs offered within universities and colleges.

Employment equity legislation is becoming more prevalent in Canadian labour markets, yet -- other than broad availability numbers -- the labour market experiencesof designated groups have not been well documented. Using the National Graduates Survey of 1992, this report profiles the early labour market experiences ofvisible minorities, Aboriginal peoples and persons with disabilities who graduated from Canadian universities and community colleges in 1990. In general, we find thatthe earnings of designated group members are very similar to the earnings of their classmates. However, we also find that members of these groups are more likely tobe unemployed and are less likely to participate in the labour force than others in their class.

Using the recent National Apprenticeship Survey, the author examines both graduates and drop-outs from provincial apprenticeship programs by occupation, wages and regions.

To develop comparative profiles of three groups of secondary school attendees a) those who successfully completed secondary school (graduates), b) those still attending (continuers), c) those who left school before receiving a diploma or certificate (leavers); and 2. The National Apprenticeship Survey collects information to understand apprenticeship-related issues. This includes the factors that affect apprentices' completion and certification before, during and after their involvement with their apprenticeship.

It was designed to complement the survey of full-time faculty and to reflect the changing reality of higher education.

Description: The purpose of this survey is twofold: - to gather information on the transfer of Canadian knowledge, skills and expertise through projects funded by the International Financial Institutions (IFI) that include a training component; and - to gather information on the marketing and sale of Canadian education and training products through projects funded by the International Financial Institutions (IFI).

Description: The Postsecondary Student Survey was designed to address such things as: 1) access to postsecondary education; 2) part-time and full-time study and employment; 3) students' income and expenditures; and 4) issues such as mobility, language and Canadian Studies.

Description: This survey, which was conducted in 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988 and 1989, identified the number of Alberta-registered apprentices and Alberta-certified journeymen who were active in their trade, as well as the trades in which they were active. The 1989 survey also identified the number of apprentices and journeymen willing to work fewer hours per week at the same hourly rate but with an equal reduction in pay and benefits.

Description: The data obtained from this survey will be useful to the Alberta government in manpower planning and in forecasting future demands on universities and community colleges in that province. In other words, the provincial government needs to determine how skilled the workforce is in order to assess the potential population to be served by universities and community colleges.

Description: The general aim of this survey is to obtain information related to the objectives of federal government programs which support post-secondary education. These data will be used to identify the extent to which residents of Canada have participated in post-secondary education, as well as describing the reasons for non-participation.
