Description: Mental health disparity is associated with diverse characteristics, such as gender, socioeconomic status, Indigenous identity, immigrant status, race, disability, and sexual orientation. However, intersectional studies on women’s mental health have been rare, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic period. To fill this research gap, this study examines women’s and girls’ self-reported mental health before and during the COVID-19 pandemic using seven characteristics, including Indigenous identity, immigrant status, racialized background, LGB+ sexual orientation, disability, and socioeconomic status (low income and unemployment).

Description: This infographic focuses on sports participation, based on data from the Survey Series on People and their Communities - Sport, Workplace Culture, Political Engagement and Shared Values collected from May to July 2023. The infographic presents data for the population aged 15 years and older on sport participation rates, the most popular sports, barriers to sport participation and reasons to participate in sports. This project falls under the Disaggregated Data Action Plan (DDAP) and aims to showcase data on sports participation among racialized individuals and immigrants.

Description: This paper focuses on the new regional labour statistics built based on the economic regions where people work. It reviews the methodology in creating these new experimental regional labour statistics. The data allow us to analyse regional labour markets as well as to track the flows of workers from one economic region to other regions.

This paper is the first that compares such statistics over an entire a decade (2010 with 2021) and investigates the extent that the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions affected employment and labour movements among regional economies.

Description: This study aims to profile workers in the homelessness support sector using data from the 2021 and 2016 censuses. The homelessness support sector is defined by combining specific occupations and industry of employment to identify individuals who work in jobs that provide services to families and individuals who face homelessness. The study profiles these individuals by geography, age, sex, family status, educational attainment, indigenous identity and visible minority status. The study also addresses their earnings and poverty status.

Description: The COVID-19 pandemic affected the Canadian economy in numerous ways, one of which was changing the relationship between growth in production, and changes in real consumption and real gross fixed capital formation (GFCF). Typically, real consumption and real GFCF are expected to progress similarly to real gross domestic product (GDP), however during the period covered by the COVID-19 pandemic, real consumption and real GFCF grew at a stronger pace than real GDP. This article illustrates how examining real income rather than real production can address this paradox. Specifically, the roles of changes in production (the use of capital, labour and multifactor productivity used to produce real GDP) and changes in non-production sources of real income growth (the trading gain and net income from abroad) are examined.

Description: Human capital is the most important component of total wealth, where total wealth is defined as the sum of produced capital (both tangible physical capital and intangible knowledge capital), natural capital and human capital. This paper provides a gender analysis of human capital and examines the contribution of women to the level and growth of human capital in Canada from 1970 to 2020.

Description: In Canada, the need for suitable and affordable housing has been recognized as critically important by all levels of government. Using data from the 2018 Canadian Housing Survey, this study examines the characteristics of Canadians who lived in subsidized housing in 2018 by gender. It also examines the differences in subsidized housing residents’ experiences, their dwelling satisfaction and the neighbourhood satisfaction, as compared to their counterparts living in non-subsidized rental housing.

Description: The lingering effects of the pandemic continue to have an impact in the rental car industry. This study examined provincial motor vehicle registration data to provide new estimates on rental car fleets in New Brunswick from 2010 to 2022, with a special focus on turnover and management of inventories during the pandemic.

Description: This follow-up study investigates how e-commerce and in-store retail sales evolved beyond the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic and precedes the transition to the 2022 North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) in the retail trade industry. In 2022, retail e-commerce sales continued to remain elevated above pre-pandemic levels in some subsectors, while in others, the resumption of in-store operations led consumers and businesses to transition closer to pre-pandemic shopping preferences.

This includes analysis of recent trends in crime rates and severity in rural and urban areas, both at the national and provincial levels. Analysis uses police-reported data from the Uniform Crime Reporting Survey and the Homicide Survey, as well as self-reported data from General Social Survey on Canadians' Safety (Victimization).

This report offers highlights from the 2007 Canada Survey of Giving, Volunteering, and Participating (CSGVP) which was undertaken to better understand how Canadians support individuals and communities on their own or through their involvement with charitable and non-profit organizations. For this survey, thousands of Canadians aged 15 and over were asked how they: gave money and other resources to individuals and to organizations; volunteered time to help others and to enhance their communities; and participated in the practices which help give substance to active citizenship. The results from this survey allow this report to tell a story about who Canada's volunteers and charitable donors are and the ways in which they contribute to our society.
