Description: There is a growing trend in the prevalence of activity limitations among both certified journeypersons and non-journeypersons between 2016 and 2021, with certified journeypersons experiencing this increase at a faster rate. In the context of the skilled trades, activity limitations can pose as a barrier for prospective journeypersons, and the possibility of worsening their condition can also pose as a motivating factor for them to leave an apprenticeship program and/or quit the skilled trades altogether. These points are of particular interest given the various reports on the incoming labour shortages in the skilled trades and the need to attract and retain journeypersons in the field to meet future demands.

Description: This article provides new statistics on the video game industry across the Canadian provinces from 2013 to 2022, focusing on three main areas of interest. First, it examines changes in firm counts, revenue and jobs across several dimensions: ownership (Canadian- or foreign-owned), activity (design or publishing), size and geographic region. Second, it presents statistics on the percentage of women employees and the percentage of employee compensation paid to women over time. Third, it compares entry and exit rates for video game firms with entry and exit rates for all private employer firms in Canada.

Description: Temporary foreign workers (TFWs) are playing an increasingly important role in addressing labour shortages in Canada’s health care sector. This study uses the integrated longitudinal administrative database and examines the number and characteristics of TFWs employed in the health care sector since 2000. It also tracks their transition to permanent residency (PR) and analyzes the percentage of individuals who remain in the sector after gaining PR.

Description: The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) has admitted more immigrants than any other individual economic immigration program in most years since the mid-2010s. This article examines the occupational outcomes of recent provincial nominees (PNs) who obtained permanent residence in Canada one to five years prior to the 2021 Census. Description: The Survey of Labour and Income Dynamics (SLID) conducts an annual labour and income interview in January. The data are collected using computer-assisted interviewing; thus no paper questionnaire is required for data collection. The questions, responses and interview flow for labour and income are documented in another SLID research paper. This document presents the information for the 2007 entry and exit portions of the labour and income interview (reference year 2006).

The entry exit component consists of five separate modules. The entry module is the first set of data collected. It is information collected to update the place of residence, housing conditions and expenses, as well as the household composition. For each person identified in entry, the demographics module collects (or updates) the person's name, date of birth, sex and marital status. Then the relationships module identifies (or updates) the relationship between each respondent and every other household member. The exit module includes questions on who to contact for the next interview and the names, phone numbers and addresses of two contacts to be used only if future tracing of respondents is required. An overview of the tracing component is also included in this document.
