  • Data Visualization: 71-607-X2022018
Description: This dashboard shows traffic count data that is obtained from traffic camera imagery using a computer vision-based system developed at the Data Exploration and Integration Lab (DEIL) at Statistics Canada. The system periodically pulls traffic imagery from the Application Programmable Interfaces (APIs) of municipal and provincial traffic camera programs. Vehicle detection was implemented using the open source You Only Look Once version 3 (YOLOv3) object detection model that was trained on the Common Objects in Context (COCO) dataset. The output of the model is used to generates real-time counts of the detected vehicles (cars, trucks, buses, motorcycles).

  • Table: 51F0007X
    Description:

For most of the post-war period, Canada and the United States have utilized an open regime to govern trade relations between the two countries. Such has not always been the case for transborder air services, however. In 1966, the two countries signed an air services accord (ASA) that governed commercial air services between the two. The 1966 accord was quite restrictive, limiting entry and price competition in transborder markets. This restrictive agreement governed Canada-U.S. air service for almost 30 years, finally being replaced in 1995 with a new ASA that has granted entry and pricing freedom in transborder markets.

    Description:

The Canadian Consumer Price Index (CPI) accounts for the sale of used vehicles by including a net expenditure weight for used vehicles in the index for the purchase of passenger vehicles. However, price changes for new cars were used as a proxy for used cars to ensure price change for this product was still covered to the best extent possible. The research paper outlines the proposed plan for introducing used vehicle prices, including data and methods. With the introduction of the 2021 CPI basket, a new approach for measuring price change in used vehicles is recommended to replace the previous method of measuring used vehicles price change by proxy.
