Description: The geographic mobility of postsecondary graduates—where they were before their studies, where they studied, and where they went to work after graduation—is of great interest to provinces and territories because education is under their jurisdiction and graduates are synonymous with skilled workers. This data visualization takes advantage of new tables published by Statistics Canada on the geographic mobility of Canadian undergraduate degree (or bachelor's) graduates from 2012 to 2021. It displays data on where students came from, where they studied and where they worked 1 year after graduation.

Description: This interactive data visualization tool uses graphs to present social inclusion indicators under the theme of Education and skills development. The indicators (highest certificate, diploma or degree [6] and knowledge of official languages [4]) can be disaggregated by visible minority and selected sociodemographic characteristics for the population in private households. Data are available for Canada, geographical regions of Canada, province or territory and census metropolitan area. This data visualization tool is part of a broader conceptual framework on social inclusion and covers a total of 11 themes. Each theme has a similar interactive visualization tool.

Description:

Series Description - The Basic Summary Tabulations Series (1996 Census of Population) provides data based on approximately 75 cross-tabulations of three or four census variables at five very detailed levels of geography. This series shows specific characteristics of the Canadian population considered either as individuals or in terms of their family or household relations, or with a characteristic pertaining to Canadian dwellings. The BSTs provide data based on a 20% sample except for Age, Sex, Marital Status and Common-law Status which are collected from a 100% sample.

These tables are available on diskette and cover all census variable information such as Demographics; Families (Number, Type and Structure); Structural Type of Dwelling and Household Size; Immigration and Citizenship; Languages (e.g. Mother Tongue); Aboriginal Origins, Ethnic Origin and Visible Minorities (Population Groups); Labour Market Activities and Household Activities (unpaid work); Place of Work and Mode of Transportation; Education; Mobility and Migration; as well as Individual and Family Income.

This chapter examines, using key indicators, how young Canadians are faring in the labour market. It examines the types of jobs they hold and the pay they receive, and provides information about which groups were doing well in 2019 before the pandemic. The chapter also makes comparisons with older Canadians, provides trends over the last four decades, and highlights some of the short-term consequences that COVID-19 has had on youth employment. When possible, labour market indicators are examined by sex, education and immigrant status.
