This table presents experimental counts of businesses that open, close, or continue their operations each month for various levels of geographic and industry detail across Canada going back to January 2015. The data are available as series that are adjusted for seasonality. The level of geographic detail includes national, provincial and territorial, as well as census metropolitan areas (CMA). The data are also broken down by two-digit North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) with some common aggregations, including one for the total business sector for national, provincial and territorial levels of geography.

Geographic proximity to service centres and population centres is an important determinant of socio-economic and health outcomes. Consequently, it is a relevant dimension in the analysis and delivery of policies and programs.

To measure this dimension, Statistics Canada developed an Index of Remoteness of communities. For each populated community (census subdivision), the index is determined by its distance to all the population centres defined by Statistics Canada in a given travel radius, as well as their population size.

Facilities are classified in to one of the following nine types: art or cultural centre, festival site, gallery, heritage or historic site, library or archive, museum, theatre/performance and concert hall, and miscellaneous.

The listing contains the names, addresses, and geo coordinates of facilities, as well as the facility type as assigned in the data source. The ODCAF is based on data from authoritative sources that include among them provincial, territorial and municipal governments, and professional associations.

The ODCAF is released as open data under the Open Government License - Canada and provided as a zipped comma-separated values (.csv) file.

Facilities are classified into one of three types: ambulatory health care services, hospitals, and nursing and residential care facilities. The ODHF is based on data from authoritative sources that include among them all levels of government and public health and professional healthcare bodies. The ODHF is released as open data under the Open Government License - Canada and provided as a zipped comma-separated values (.csv) file.

Description: This interactive web mapping application produces timely, quantitative and objective information on crop and pasture conditions at the census agricultural region, census division, census consolidated subdivision and township levels (counties in the United States). It includes colour images and maps, graphs and tables. It is updated on a weekly basis during the growing season and holds historical data since 1987 (1-km resolution version) or 2000 (250-metre resolution version).

This product uses low-resolution, digital satellite data to monitor the changing vegetation conditions over the whole agriculture area of Canada and the northern half of the United States.

The Canadian Housing Statistics Program (CHSP) produces a comprehensive repository of statistics that covers numerous aspects of the housing sector, including property and owner characteristics. As the amount of data produced increases, the CHSP has introduced thematic maps to help people, business owners, academics, and management at all levels, to understand key information derived from the data by representing it visually at the geographical level. Thematic maps can be used quickly to communicate a message, to simplify the presentation of large amounts of data, to see data patterns and relationships and to monitor changes in variables over time.

These thematic maps will provide a quick overview of CHSP repository data.

As the new survey has two distinct components - household and individual - with revised and streamlined questions, it is not appropriate to directly compare results from these two surveys in most cases.

The Household Component of the CIUS includes a short series of questions on the type of Internet connections and devices used by households to access the Internet from home, as well as availability of high speed service, and a standard module on household income. The questions may be answered by any knowledgeable member of the household. This content is supplemented by selected household characteristics and some geographic detail (i.e. province and region).

While the Household Component covers Internet access at home, the Individual Component covers uses of the Internet from any location. This content is supplemented by individual and household characteristics (e.g. age, household income, family type) and some geographical detail (e.g. province and region).

Description: The Individuals File, Census Public Use Microdata Files (PUMF) provides data on the characteristics of the Canadian population. The files contain a sample of anonymous responses to the census questionnaire. The files have been carefully scrutinized to ensure the complete confidentiality of the individual responses and geographic identifiers have been restricted to provinces/territories and metropolitan areas. This comprehensive tool is excellent for policy analysts, pollsters, social researchers and anyone interested in modelling and performing statistical regression analysis using the Census.

Microdata files uniquely provide users access to non-aggregated data. The PUMFs user can group and manipulate these variables to suit data and research requirements. Tabulations excluded from other Census products can be created or relationships between variables can be analyzed using different statistical tests. PUMFs provide quick access to a comprehensive social and economic database about Canada and its people.

This product contains the data file (in ASCII format); user documentation and supporting information; all licence agreements; and SAS, SPSS and Stata program source codes to enable users to read the set of records. It is important to note that users will require knowledge of data manipulation packages (or software) such as SAS, SPSS or Stata to use this product.

Description: This public use microdata file (PUMF) contains non-aggregated data for a wide variety of variables collected from the Labour Force Survey (LFS). The LFS collects monthly information on the labour market activities of Canada's working age population. This product is for users who prefer to do their own analysis by focusing on specific subgroups in the population or by cross-classifying variables that are not in our catalogued products.

Monthly files are available back to 2006 and can be directly downloaded. For reference periods prior to 2006, files are available by request through Statistics Canada's Electronic File Transfer (EFT) and date back to 1976.

Description: This survey was designed to collect details on topics such as: i) the extent to which graduates of postsecondary programs have been successful in obtaining employment since graduation; ii) the relationship between the graduates' program of study and the employment subsequently obtained; iii) the type of employment obtained and qualification requirements; iv) sources of funding for postsecondary education; and v) government-sponsored student loans and other sources of student debt. Description: This public use microdata file (PUMF) provides researchers access to data on the distribution of SARS-CoV-2 lineages detected in the Canadian provinces between May and September 2022. Samples were collected as part of the Canadian COVID-19 Antibody and Health Survey (CCAHS), Cycle 2. The PUMF file consists of a subset of participants of the CCAHS who submitted a positive PCR saliva sample over the course of the collection of the survey. The PUMF contains select demographic information including sex at birth, age group, province and the week of collection. The file also contains SARS-CoV-2 whole genome sequences and its associated data.

Description: The need for alternative data sources is of growing importance for both supplementing Statistics Canada's data holdings and for nowcasting economic activity. In response to this need, Statistics Canada initiated the development of a Real-time Local Business Conditions Index (RT-LBCI). The index brings together data from a few different sources, including Google's Places API (containing data on temporary and permanent businesses closures), TomTom Real-time traffic API (road traffic data), as well as information from Statistics Canada data holdings (monthly retail and wholesale, Business Register, etc.). The project aims to compute a near real-time index of economic activity in Canadian major cities.

An interactive map displays the daily movement of grain, detailing estimates of tonnage flows per unit of time, along segments of the railway network, stations, and ports.

The counts include only those travelling for tourism-related purposes. The dashboard includes four visualizations: leading indicator of air arrivals, leading indicator of land arrivals, returning Canadians, and visitors to Canada.

This web application provides access to new housing prices data for Canada and 27 census metropolitan areas (CMA). The maps, charts and tables draw from information collected from respondents who provide information on Canada's new housing prices. The interactive dashboard allows users to visualize statistics on new housing prices' monthly and annual movements and on rankings by CMAs of the largest monthly price movements.

Description: The Extractive Sector Transparency Measures Act (ESTMA) Data Portal is a collaboration between Statistics Canada and Natural Resources Canada, which administers the ESTMA. The ESTMA helps the Government of Canada deter corruption in the extractive sector by requiring extractive entities that are active in Canada to publicly disclose, on an annual basis, certain types of payments made to governments in Canada and abroad. The goal of the data portal is to increase the accessibility and utility of the payment information collected under the ESTMA by bringing together all available ESTMA data in one online location, and further enriching the payment data with analytical functions that help users to leverage the complete ESTMA dataset. The database has also been designed with mobility in mind to ensure that users and stakeholders have mobile access to ESTMA data.

Description: This web application provides access to Statistics Canada’s Labour Market Indicators for Canada, by province, territory and economic region (ER). This dynamic application allows users to view a snapshot of key labour market indicators, observe geographical rankings for each indicator using an interactive map and table, and easily copy data into other programs. The provincial and ER estimates used in this application from the Labour Force Survey (LFS) are three-month moving averages, unadjusted for seasonality. The provincial, territorial and ER estimates used in this application from the Job Vacancy and Wage Survey (JVWS) are quarterly data, unadjusted for seasonality. Historical estimates are available in this application, with data going back 10 years for the LFS and from the first quarter of 2016 for JVWS.

Description: This interactive dashboard provides access to current and historical Consumer Price Index (CPI) data in a dynamic and customizable format. Key indicators such as the 12-month and 1-month inflation rates and price trends are presented in interactive charts, allowing users to compare and analyze price changes of all the goods and services in the CPI basket over time as well as across geography (national, provincial and territorial levels).

Other CPI indicators available in this tool include the Bank of Canada’s core measures of inflation, seasonally adjusted inflation rates, and CPI basket weights.

Description: This dashboard highlights the latest data for the Wholesale Services Price Index (WSPI) and the Retail Services Price Index (RSPI). The WSPI and the RSPI are indicators of change in the price of wholesaling and retailing services in Canada. This price is defined as a margin, which is the difference between the selling price and the purchase price of products sold. With this tool, data users can explore current and historical trends for various types of wholesaling and retailing services. Key indicators such as the latest quarterly and year-over-year (annual) changes, as well as services price trends are presented in interactive charts, allowing users to compare and analyze services price changes over time for different types of services. The interactive tool also allows users to rank subsectors based on their relative importance (2013 weights) to the overall Canadian wholesale or retail sector .
