Geographic proximity to service centres and population centres is an important determinant of socio-economic and health outcomes. Consequently, it is a relevant dimension in the analysis and delivery of policies and programs.

To measure this dimension, Statistics Canada developed an Index of Remoteness of communities. For each populated community (census subdivision), the index is determined by its distance to all the population centres defined by Statistics Canada in a given travel radius, as well as their population size.

This product describes the similarities and differences between two sets of United Nations (UN) guidelines for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions: the United Nations System of Environmental-Economic Accounts (SEEA) and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Description: The Public-Use Microdata File (PUMF) for the Survey of Household Spending (SHS) provides information on household expenditures as well as selected information on dwelling characteristics and household equipment. The production of this file includes many safeguards to prevent the identification of any one person or household.

PUMFs were produced on an annual basis for SHS 1997 to 2009, before a redesigned survey was introduced with the 2010 reference year. The SHS 2017 PUMF is the first SHS PUMF based on data collected after the 2010 survey redesign.

Due to changes to data collection, processing and estimation methods introduced with the 2010 redesign, users are advised not to compare data from SHS 1997 to 2009 with data from any subsequent years, unless otherwise noted.

Description: This dashboard shows traffic count data that is obtained from traffic camera imagery using a computer vision-based system developed at the Data Exploration and Integration Lab (DEIL) at Statistics Canada. The system periodically pulls traffic imagery from the Application Programmable Interfaces (APIs) of municipal and provincial traffic camera programs. Vehicle detection was implemented using the open source You Only Look Once version 3 (YOLOv3) object detection model that was trained on the Common Objects in Context (COCO) dataset. The output of the model is used to generates real-time counts of the detected vehicles (cars, trucks, buses, motorcycles).
