This article describes the revisions to the Financial Flow Accounts (FFA), the Other Changes in Assets Account (OCAA), and the National Balance Sheet Accounts (NBSA), collectively referred to as the Financial and Wealth Accounts (FWA), introduced as part of the 2021 Comprehensive Revision. These accounts are an integral part of the Canadian System of Macroeconomic Accounts (CSMA). This exercise was conducted to strengthen the overall quality and relevance of the FWA program and to introduce new concepts, methodologies, and classifications as recommended by international standards.

This study assesses the degree to which administrative data, namely the Statistics Canada Longitudinal Worker File, can be used to construct individuals’ work histories. It describes why information obtained from work histories is useful, provides a brief overview of Canadian datasets that have measured work histories to date, and highlights the strengths and weaknesses of the Longitudinal Worker File, and household surveys regarding the construction of individuals’ work histories.

Description: The Longitudinal Immigration Database (IMDB) is a comprehensive source of data that plays a key role in the understanding of the economic behaviour of immigrants. It is the only annual Canadian dataset that allows users to study the characteristics of immigrants to Canada at the time of admission and their economic outcomes and regional (inter-provincial) mobility over a time span of more than 35 years. The IMDB includes Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) administrative records which contain exhaustive information about immigrants who were admitted to Canada since 1952. It also includes data about non-permanent residents who have been issued temporary resident permits since 1980. This report will discuss the IMDB data sources, concepts and variables, record linkage, data processing, dissemination, data evaluation and quality indicators, comparability with other immigration datasets, and the analyses possible with the IMDB.

Multinational enterprises (MNEs) have been drivers of globalization. These enterprises have taken advantage of innovations in logistics and communications technology over the past four decades to diversify their supply chains and expand into new markets. Operating internationally, however, also allows MNEs to take advantage of tax systems which were designed for a less integrated era. For example, MNEs can arrange for profits to be 'shifted' by charging affiliates in high tax locations prices above market rates in transactions with affiliates in lower tax regions. These behaviours are referred to as base erosion and profit shifting (BEPS), and, although not illegal, they impact government revenues worldwide.

Indigenous people represent one of the youngest populations in Canada. On average, Indigenous people were 8.4 years younger than the non-Indigenous population in 2016. Youth aged 15 to 24 years make up one sixth of the entire Indigenous population (16.9%). This chapter examines the demographic, familial, educational, economic, health and cultural characteristics of Indigenous youth aged 15 to 24. Data are largely taken from the 2016 Census of Population and the 2017 Aboriginal Peoples Survey.

This paper presents preliminary findings on the relationship between disability, age of onset or diagnosis, and age of limitation. These findings are based on questions asked for each disability type covered in the 2017 Canadian Survey on Disability (CSD). It provides a profile of the age of onset, age of limitation and the period from onset to limitation for each disability type. The age of onset and age of limitation are examined by different characteristics, including sex, severity of disability and age group.

Description: This article presents revisions to the gross domestic product by income and by expenditure accounts for the 2018-to-2020 period. These revisions were also reflected in the 2020 Provincial and Territorial Economic Accounts estimates, which were released on November 9, 2021.

This annual Juristat article presents 2020 homicide data. Short and long-term trends in homicide are examined at the national, provincial/territorial and census metropolitan area levels. Gang-related homicides, firearm-related homicides, intimate partner homicides, and homicides committed by youth are also explored. This Juristat also presents data for which complete information regarding Indigenous identity has been reported for both victims and accused persons, regardless of gender.

Description: The interprovincial and international trade flows shows the origin and destination of trade flows by product among Canadian provinces and territories and from and to the rest of the world. The information is available at the four levels (Detail, Link-1997, Link-1961 and Summary) of hierarchy of the Supply and Use Product Classification (SUPC). The data is provided in spreadsheet format for ease of use.

Description: This web application provides access to data from the 2018 and 2020 Canadian Internet Use Survey. This dynamic application allows users to obtain data on the use of Internet services and technologies by Canadians in 2018 and 2020. The data is supplemented by household characteristics such as age, gender, highest level of education completed and some geographical detail (e.g. province). Among the indicators used in this interactive application to describe the use of Internet-related services and technologies are Internet use and intensity of use, percentage of Canadians who purchased online and the average expenditure by type of good and services purchased online and, the percentage of Canadians who have experienced cyber security incidents over the Internet.

Description: This interactive dashboard provides an overview of Indigenous populations projections using the most recent results of the Demosim microsimulation projection model. Showing results coming from several projection scenarios, this tool allows users to quickly and easily explore data-such as population counts by geography and age group. Information for the overall Indigenous population as well as for specific Indigenous populations, notably, Registered Indians, First Nations people, Métis and Inuit are presented for all provinces and territories.

Description: The Open Database of Recreational and Sport Facilities (ODRSF) is a listing of recreational and sport facilities across Canada from open sources. Facilities are classified into one of the following eighteen types: trails, sports fields, arenas, athletic parks, beaches, casinos, community centres, gyms, marinas, parks, playgrounds, pools, race tracks, rinks, skate parks, splash pads, stadiums, and miscellaneous. The listing contains the names, addresses, and geo coordinates of facilities, as well as the facility type as assigned in the data source. The ODRSF is based on data from authoritative sources that include among them provincial, territorial and municipal governments. The ODRSF is released as open data under the Open Government License - Canada and provided as a zipped comma-separated values (.csv) file.

Description: The energy sector is an important part of the Canadian economic landscape. The following table provides the most recent data available from the Natural Resource Satellite Account-Human Resource Module (HRM). The Natural Resources Satellite Account (NRSA) provides some information on the number of jobs generated by the sector at the national level. The HRM complements and enhances the analytical capacity provided by allowing for a broader insight into the role of natural resources in the economy by providing more detailed human resource information.

Description: The Multifactor Productivity application is an analytical tool that provides custom aggregation and custom tabulation of productivity statistics based on the series in CODR table 36-10-0211. The application permits custom aggregation across industries for all published variables, data transformations such as growth rate calculations, log-transformations and index re-basing, correlation and density analysis and visualization of retrieved outputs. The output values from calculations are available as .csv files. Visualizations can be downloaded as .png files. The data in the application are annual values beginning in 1961 and ending with the most recent data available.

Description: This dashboard highlights the overall framework of beef value chains in Canada, and identify entities production, processing, distribution, consumption, retail sales, and pricing; as well international trade of goods.

The dashboard uses various Statistic Canada data sources including the Canadian International Merchandise Trade database, the Biannual Livestock Survey, the Farm Cash Receipts, the Farm Product Price Index, Farm Product Price Survey, the Consumer Price Index, the Industrial Product Price Index, the Wholesale Services Price Index, and the Retail Services Price Index. The sources provide data ranging from 2007 to 2020.

This dashboard is accompanied by a report, which examines the beef supply chain more comprehensively and includes additional data sources.

The ODA is based on data from authoritative sources that include among them provincial, territorial and municipal governments. The ODA is released as open data under the Open Government License - Canada and provided as a collection of compressed CSV files.

Description: The interactive dashboard allows users to explore the main data released from the Intellectual Property Awareness and Use survey (IPAU) on February 18, 2021. Intellectual property (IP) is a distinct form of creative endeavour such as an invention, literary and artistic work, image or design that may be protected by formal legislation or common law or that has provided commercial value. The strategic use of IP is critical to the innovation and economic growth of Canadian enterprises. As a result, the IPAU survey was created to establish a baseline on the familiarity and use of IP by businesses in Canada. This survey is also part of the national Intellectual Property Strategy, which was designed to improve access to the IP system for all Canadians, including traditionally underrepresented groups, such as women and Indigenous peoples. Businesses in Canada can own IP domestically and internationally. International IP protection is accorded through a registration process in the country of interest. Data are available by enterprise size; by sector, according to the North American Industry Classification System; and by economic region, according to the Standard Geographical Classification, for the reference period from 2017 to 2019.

Description: While the primary reason for international students being in Canada is for study purposes, they may also participate in the labour market. Increases over the past two decades in the number of international students, alongside programs designed to facilitate their availability to work while studying, parallel a growing role played by this population in the Canadian labour market. This article assesses the extent to which international students who intended to study at the postsecondary level were engaged in the labour market.

Postsecondary students can claim postsecondary education credits to lower their tax obligations (or that of a parent, grandparent, spouse or common-law partner, or their parent or grandparent). Claiming the credits is costless, but it does require knowledge of how the credits work to reduce taxes. As a result, claim rates may be unequal across socio-economic backgrounds, including the level of parental income (a key policy lever for needs-based student financial aid). The purpose of this article is to document claim rates among postsecondary students by level of parental income, as well as to re-assess trends in postsecondary enrolment rates by level of parental income in light of unequal claim rates. These trends were previously established with information on the tax credits in tax data. This study uses data from the T1 Family File (T1FF) and the Postsecondary Student Information System (PSIS), which have been recently linked for all ten provinces from 2009 onwards.

Description: This file is a dissemination block-level dataset that includes correspondences to all geographic levels of the Census of Population. It is designed to be used in conjunction with the boundary files to allow for linkages between geographic areas and other levels of geography using the Dissemination Geography Unique Identifiers (DGUID).

Three correspondence files are available: the "Dissemination Area correspondence file", the "Dissemination Area and Land Area correspondence file", and the "Dissemination Block correspondence file".

Each file contains a unique identifier for the most recent census geographic area and the corresponding unique identifier for the previous census area. An indicator specifying the degree of correspondence between the geographic areas, which facilitates the comparison of data across census years, is also provided.
