    This article explains the impact of new and revised data on the National Tourism Indicators (NTI). With the release of the fourth quarter 2021 estimates of the NTI in March 2022, all data were revised from the first quarter of 2018 to the third quarter of 2021. Estimates for all of 2021 were revised again with the release of the first quarter of 2022 NTI in July 2022, now including the fourth quarter of 2021.

However, large differences in RESP savings persist between families of different income levels, despite targeted incentives aimed at encouraging low- and middle-income families to open RESP accounts and contribute to them. This article documents the differences in RESP contributions between families with different levels of income and liquid wealth.

    Experiencing a permanent layoff—a job loss without returning to the same employer during the same or subsequent year—can have significant and long-lasting impacts. One strategy to cope with job loss is to retrain. However, until recently, data limitations have prevented researchers from observing the detailed training activities of Canadians who have been permanently laid off. This study aims to address this gap by documenting the detailed postsecondary training decisions made by affected workers following job displacement.

    In 2015, Canada witnessed its first gender-balanced federal cabinet. The share of women among candidates in federal elections and elected candidates has been increasing, although the share of women elected to the federal parliament remains lower than the share of female candidates. Using census data from 2016 and 2001, and the 2011 National Household Survey, this study presents a profile of individuals who worked as legislators in 2016 in the federal public administration; provincial or territorial public administration; or municipal, local or regional public administration, and highlights differences in socio-demographic characteristics between male and female legislators.

The analysis distinguishes between the actions of those who experienced an actual layoff associated with a firm closure and those who worked in a closing firm but did not necessarily wait until the closure (“impending layoff”).

    Once every five years, the Census of Population provides a detailed and comprehensive statistical portrait of Canada that is vital to our country. It is the primary source of sociodemographic data for specific population groups such as lone-parent families, Indigenous peoples, immigrants, seniors and language groups.

    In order to help users of census products to better understand the various Census of Population concepts, Statistics Canada has developed, in the context of the activities of the 2021 Census and previous censuses, a collection of short videos. These videos are a reference source for users who are new to census concepts or those who have some experience with these concepts, but may need a refresher or would like to expand their knowledge.
