- Articles and reports: 82-003-X202600500001Description: Previous research has found variability in cancer incidence and cancer-related outcomes according to place of residence. This study examined geographic variability in the incidence and mortality of breast cancer among females in Canada, using data from the 2021 Canadian Cancer Registry (breast cancer incidence) and the Canadian Vital Statistics – Death database (breast cancer mortality). Age-standardized incidence rates (ASIRs) and age-standardized mortality rates (ASMRs) per 100,000 females per year and their rate ratios were calculated, as well as age group-specific and age-standardized stage-specific incidence rates, and examined across provinces and territories, community sizes, and peer groups (i.e., clusters of health regions with similar socioeconomic and demographic characteristics).Release date: 2026-05-20
- Journals and periodicals: 82-625-XGeography: CanadaDescription: Health fact sheets will include short, focused, single-theme analysis documents. Over the course of the series, analysis will include topics on: Health conditions, lifestyle, well-being, disability, prevention and detection of disease, deaths, pregnancy and birth, health care services and environmental factors.Release date: 2026-05-20
- Articles and reports: 85-002-X202600100008Description: This Juristat article explores the relationship between socioeconomic characteristics and reconvictions among Indigenous adults released from full-time provincial custody in 2016/2017, in the provinces of Nova Scotia, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia. The study examines pre-release socioeconomic characteristics, including education, employment, income, family composition, emergency healthcare, geographic location, and neighbourhood characteristics, to identify possible links between these factors and the likelihood of reconviction for a crime.Release date: 2026-05-14

The estimates are based on the most recent census of population results available at the time of publication, which have been adjusted for census net undercoverage (including adjustment for incompletely enumerated Indian reserves). This publication also contains highlights and an analysis of the most recent demographic trends, as well as a description of the concepts, methods and data quality of the estimates.Release date: 2025-01-16

- Articles and reports: 85-002-X202400100002Description: This Juristat article presents data and information on reconvictions among adults released from full-time custody, starting an intermittent custodial sentence, or starting a community supervision sentence across five provincial correctional programs in 2015/2016. Reconvictions were examined for up to four years, from 2015/2016 to 2018/2019. Findings are disaggregated by age, gender, criminal history and population group, including Indigenous, Black and other racialized groups. This study is based on linked data from the Canadian Correctional Services Survey, Integrated Criminal Court Survey and Canadian Vital Statistics - Death database.Release date: 2024-02-23
- Articles and reports: 82-003-X202301200002Description: The validity of survival estimates from cancer registry data depends, in part, on the identification of the deaths of deceased cancer patients. People whose deaths are missed seemingly live on forever and are informally referred to as “immortals”, and their presence in registry data can result in inflated survival estimates. This study assesses the issue of immortals in the Canadian Cancer Registry (CCR) using a recently proposed method that compares the survival of long-term survivors of cancers for which “statistical” cure has been reported with that of similar people from the general population.Release date: 2023-12-20
- Articles and reports: 82-003-X202300900002Description: According to recent Canadian estimates, over two in five Canadians will likely develop cancer in their lifetime, and one in four is expected to die of it. The lifetime probabilities of developing cancer and dying from cancer are useful summary statistics that describe the impact of cancer within a population. However, there is little information on how lifetime probabilities of developing cancer and dying from cancer have changed over time. This study aims to present detailed lifetime probabilities of developing cancer and dying from cancer by sex and cancer type, and to describe changes in these lifetime probabilities over time among the Canadian population.Release date: 2023-09-20

National health surveys and vital statistics registries are the cornerstones of surveillance, monitoring and policy development in most developed countries. This cohort profile describes the linkage of the Canadian Community Health Survey - Nutrition (2004) to the Canadian Vital Statistics - Death Database (2011). Further, the authors demonstrate how these data can be used in terms of potential analysis strategies, and discuss their strengths and limitations-considerations that could apply to any national nutrition survey worldwide.
Release date: 2022-09-15 - Articles and reports: 82-003-X202200700001Description: There has been increasing scrutiny of opioid prescribing following injury given concerns that prescribed opioids may contribute to addiction and/or overdose. This study aimed to better understand the relationship between injury, opioids prescribed pre- and post-injury, and non-medical drug poisoning. Focusing on working age (15-65 years old) residents of the Fraser Health region, this study used a linked administrative dataset to better understand the relationships between injury, whether the injury was work-related or sustained outside of the workplace, pain management medication in the form of opioid and opioid agonist therapy prescriptions before and after injury, and potential non-medical drug poisoning.Release date: 2022-07-20
