Data modelled in real time on this web page are not to be confused with Census counts and demographic estimates, which are the measures used to determine the size of the population in the context of various governmental programs.

Statistics for the most recent quarter are also presented. The dashboard shows population, population growth, population weight, and factors of population growth (natural increase, international migration, interprovincial migration). The user can view the data for Canada or by selecting a province or territory of interest.

Description: This interactive dashboard allows the visualization of the age and gender structure of the population of Canada, provinces and territories. The data presented cover the period from 1971 to the most recent year. The dashboard shows the proportion of the total population by broad age group, the proportion of centenarians, the distribution of the population by age and gender, the average age, the number of people aged 15 to 64 per person aged 65 years and older and the gender ratio by age group. Data can be visualized for Canada or for a selected province or territory.

This interactive dashboard allows the user to visualize the evolution of interprovincial migration over time as well as by province or territory of origin and destination. The dashboard shows the net interprovincial migrants between two provinces or territories from 1971/1972 to the most period year for which data is available. Users can select the provinces or territories of origin and destination of their choice using filters located at the top of the dashboard. The numbers of interprovincial migrants for every combination of province or territory of origin and destination can also be viewed, by selecting the period of interest using the appropriate filter.

The dashboard shows the levels of in-migrants, out-migrants and net interprovincial migration. It also presents trends in the form of rates to facilitate comparisons between provinces and territories and between age groups. The data presented covers the period from 1971/1972 to the most recent period.

Description: This interactive dashboard visualizes the popularity of baby names over time for Canada. The dashboard displays the top 20 baby names by selected year for both boys and girls. It is also possible to search for a particular first name by sex at birth to see the historical evolution of the first name in terms of frequency, the proportion of children with the chosen name and the annual rank.

Description: This study uses various demographic scenarios to examine the effects of different immigration levels and labour force participation rates on the size and composition of the Canadian labour force to 2041. These scenarios take into account the targets of the 2024–2026 Immigration Levels Plan, published in November 2023 by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, as well as recent demographic developments, such as those related to the COVID-19 pandemic and the increase in the number of permanent and temporary immigrants admitted to Canada in 2022 and 2023.

The estimates are based on the most recent census of population results available at the time of publication, which have been adjusted for census net undercoverage (including adjustment for incompletely enumerated Indian reserves). To find a specific place of interest, users can click and zoom in on a map of Canada or they can search by place name, postal code, street address, street intersection or geographic code. GeoSearch will display the appropriate map showing boundaries and other features. GeoSearch automatically shows, for the selected places, the types of geographic area and its relationship to other geographic areas. A thematic mapping option is also available for selected census topics (for selected levels of geography). GeoSearch includes links to census reference maps and various census products.

The Geographic Attribute File contains information at the dissemination block level, based Census standard geographic areas. The data available include population counts, dwelling counts, and land area. In addition, the Geographic Attribute File contains higher level standard geographic codes, names and, where applicable, types and classes. Data for higher level standard geographic areas can be derived by aggregating dissemination block level data. The dissemination area representative point coordinates are also included in the Geographic Attribute File.

Depending on the application, estimates using any of the following concepts may be appropriate for the Aboriginal population: (1) Aboriginal identity, (2) Aboriginal ancestry, (3) Registered or Treaty Indian status and (4) Membership in a First Nation or Indian band. Description:

Internal migration is one of the components of population growth estimated at Statistics Canada. It is estimated by comparing individuals’ addresses at the beginning and end of a given period. The Canada Child Tax Benefit and T1 Family File are the primary data sources used. Address quality and coverage of more mobile subpopulations are crucial to producing high-quality estimates. The purpose of this article is to present the results of evaluations of these elements using access to more tax data sources at Statistics Canada.
