Canada's population clock (real-time model)
Important notice
This population clock models in real time changes to the size of the Canadian population and the provinces and territories. However, population estimates and Census counts are the measures used to determine the size of the population in the context of various governmental programs. Additional information related to Canadian population trends can be found on Statistics Canada’s Population and Demography Portal.

Notes
Note that discrepancies may be observed when running more than one instance of the tool. The location in which events are occurring may differ due to the randomization of the modelled data.
Some demographic events of the population clock (emigrants and non-permanent residents) are modelled as a net number in order to facilitate the calculations.
A net emigrant is calculated by adding emigration and by subtracting return emigration.
Net non-permanent residents represent the variation in the number of non-permanent residents. This variation can be positive or negative. A non-permanent resident refers to a person from another country with a usual place of residence in Canada and who has a work or study permit or who has claimed refugee status (asylum claimant). Family members living with work or study permit holders are also included unless these family members are already Canadian citizens, landed immigrants (permanent residents), or non-permanent residents themselves.
