Description: This dashboard shows traffic count data that is obtained from traffic camera imagery using a computer vision-based system developed at the Data Exploration and Integration Lab (DEIL) at Statistics Canada. The system periodically pulls traffic imagery from the Application Programmable Interfaces (APIs) of municipal and provincial traffic camera programs. Vehicle detection was implemented using the open source You Only Look Once version 3 (YOLOv3) object detection model that was trained on the Common Objects in Context (COCO) dataset. The output of the model is used to generates real-time counts of the detected vehicles (cars, trucks, buses, motorcycles).

The motor carriers of freight, private carriers survey covers those private carriers with at least $1 million in annual operating expenses that can provide separate accounting information for their trucking activities within the larger busines. This survey collects data on the size, structure and financial performance of those reporting private carriers. The number of carriers reporting to the survey in 1995 was 442, an increase of 22% over 1994. This increase was due, not to new firms entering the industry, but to an effort to contact as many carriers as possible using a recently updated list. In the following text, 1995 data comparisons with previous years are performed on a per carrier basis.

Description: This research paper examines shelter and transportation costs within census metropolitan areas (CMAs). The paper begins by describing a proposed methodology for delineating urban and suburban sub-regions within CMA Market Basket Measure (MBM) regions. It then presents new shelter and transportation costs based on the new delineations and assesses the extent to which differences in costs between urban and suburban sub-regions differ. The analysis concludes by examining how the new delineations would impact the estimation of poverty rates had they been implemented. This paper also provides an opportunity for the public and stakeholders to provide feedback and comments.

While this increase in work from home likely reduced commuting and greenhouse gas emissions caused by transportation, it also put downward pressure on the revenues and ridership of urban public transit systems. Transport Canada computes a mobility indicator to assess the impact of urban bottlenecks in Canada’s strategic trade corridors and the economy. This information is important for practitioners and policymakers as it goes beyond anecdotal evidence on a subject affecting millions of Canadians and our trade corridors. The mobility indicator in question is the Travel Time Index (TTI). It is the ratio of the measured travel time to the free-flow travel time. Free-flow travel time is measured overnight, when drivers are free to drive at their desired speed because of low volume traffic conditions.
