Description: The Public Use Microdata File (PUMF) for the Canadian Tobacco and Nicotine Survey (CTNS) provides information to fill important data gaps related to vaping, cannabis, and tobacco usage. The data will inform policy and provide a current snapshot of use across Canada.

Until 2017, Statistics Canada conducted the Canadian Tobacco, Alcohol and Drugs Survey (CTADS), which collected data on tobacco as well as alcohol and drug use in Canada. In 2019, the Canadian Alcohol and Drugs Survey (CADS) was conducted to collect data on alcohol and drug use independently from the Canadian Tobacco and Nicotine Survey (CTNS) which was conducted to primarily collect data on tobacco and nicotine.

This product includes many safeguards to prevent the identification of any one person or household. The CTNS PUMF is for users who prefer to do their own analysis by focusing on specific sub-groups in the population or by cross-classifying variables.

Description: This public use microdata file (PUMF) provides researchers access to data on the distribution of SARS-CoV-2 lineages detected in the Canadian provinces between May and September 2022. Samples were collected as part of the Canadian COVID-19 Antibody and Health Survey (CCAHS), Cycle 2. The PUMF file consists of a subset of participants of the CCAHS who submitted a positive PCR saliva sample over the course of the collection of the survey. The PUMF contains select demographic information including sex at birth, age group, province and the week of collection. Statistics Canada collected data on the topic of giving, volunteering and participating for the seventh time in 2018. Data were previously collected by the National Survey of Giving, Volunteering and Participating (NSGVP) in 1997 and 2000, and by the Canada Survey of Giving, Volunteering and Participating (CSGVP) 2004, 2007 and 2010. Then the survey became part of Statistics Canada's GSS program with its 2013 iteration. The 2018 GSS GVP collected data from persons aged 15 years and over living in private households in Canada, excluding residents of the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut and full time residents of institutions. Between 2004 and 2018, core content of the survey was revised in a number of ways, based on experience gained from earlier iterations. Some questions were revised to improve their clarity for respondents, and others were added or dropped following consultations with stakeholders from the charitable and non-profit sector, government and academic communities. In 2018, updates were also made in light of developments in international standards concerning the definition of volunteering. Moreover, there were updates made throughout the questionnaire due to the transition to online reporting.

This package was designed to help users access and manipulate the public use microdata file (PUMF) for the 2013 General Social Survey (GSS) on Social Identity. It contains the PUMF data and describes the objectives, methodology and estimation procedures for this survey as well as guidelines for releasing estimates.

The 2013 GSS was the third cycle to collect information on social networks and social engagement in Canada. The previous iteration of the survey was Social Networks in 2008 and the first, Social Engagement in 2003. The 2013 GSS collected data from persons aged 15 years and over living in private households in Canada, excluding residents of the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut and full time residents of institutions.

In addition to content previously covered, the 2013 GSS included new questions on pride, appreciation of national symbols and shared values. Data were also collected on the respondents’ main activity, as well as education, religion, income and other socio demographic characteristics.

A reference year for the RCBP database runs from January 1 to December 31. The main variables in this RCBP dashboard are business counts, revenue, expenses, and balance sheets items. Data are organized by geography, by location, by industry code, and by industry incorporation status. The RCBP database defines rural and small town (RST) areas as communities outside census metropolitan areas and census agglomerations.

12. Canadian Economic Dashboard and COVID-19

This dashboard presents selected data that are relevant for monitoring the impacts of COVID-19 on economic activity in Canada. It includes data on a range of monthly indicators - real GDP, consumer prices, the unemployment rate, merchandise exports and imports, retail sales, hours worked and manufacturing sales -- as well as monthly data on aircraft movements, railway carloadings, and travel between Canada and other countries.

Estimates are presented from January 2019 to the current reference month for each data series. The information will be updated continuously as new data becomes available, and additional series may be added to the dashboard as circumstances warrant.

To support the analysis of time series movements in the data, the dashboard reports changes in each series on both a month-over-month and year-over-year basis. For most of the variables reported, information on cumulative changes in the data both prior and subsequent to the end of 2019 is also presented by indexing the level estimates to December 2019, as depicted in the accompanying charts.

Description: The dashboard presents data that are relevant for monitoring the impacts of COVID-19 on mortality in Canada. It includes the latest weekly death data, historical weekly death data back to 2014, updated adjusted (i.e. the estimated number of weekly deaths) and expected weekly death counts produced for the 2020 reference year from the Canadian Vital Statistics: Death database (CVS:D). The CVS:D is an administrative survey that collects demographic and medical (cause of death) information from all provincial and territorial vital statistics registries on all deaths in Canada. With this tool, data users can explore current and historical weekly trends of deaths for each province and territory. Key variables such as age group and sex are also presented in interactive charts. The interactive tool allows users to examine excess deaths by comparing the trend in weekly deaths in 2020 to the trends in weekly deaths in previous years.
