    Using data from the Canadian Housing Survey, this project aimed to construct a measure of social inclusion, using indicators identified by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), to report a social inclusion score for each geographic stratum separately for dwellings that are and are not in social and affordable housing. This project also sought to examine associations between social inclusion and a set of economic, social and health variables.

    The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted many different communities in Canada, including visible minorities. This article presents results from the Canadian Survey on Business Conditions which show that businesses majority-owned by visible minorities expect lower profits, and are more likely to expect to face obstacles obtaining financing. Their financial constraints do not differ greatly from all private sector businesses, and over one-tenth of businesses majority-owned by visible minorities can continue to operate for less than 12 months. This article further explores the obstacles these businesses expect to face and their expectations for the future.

    The Canada Emergency Response Benefit program (CERB) was introduced to provide financial support to employees and self-employed workers in Canada who were directly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. This article examines the proportion of 2019 workers who received CERB payments in 2020 by various characteristics. CERB take-up rates are presented by industry, earnings group in 2019, sex, age group and province, as well as for population groups designated as visible minorities, immigrants and Indigenous people. Some factors that help explain differences in take-up rates among these groups of workers are also examined.
