    In recent years, Statistics Canada has made available data on business ownership by individuals in employment equity groups, namely women and persons with disabilities. However, little is known about business ownership among the other two employment equity groups, Indigenous peoples and racialized groups. This article describes the methodology used to fill the data gap on Indigenous business owners and Indigenous-owned businesses and is based on a novel linkage between the Canadian Employer–Employee Dynamics Database (2018), the Census of Population (2001, 2006, 2016) and the 2011 National Household Survey.

This economic account includes economic indicators (GDP, output and total number of jobs) as well as a human resource module (HRM).     This report provides an up-to-date overview of the labour market involvement of the off-reserve Aboriginal population in Canada's ten provinces during and after the 2008/2009 economic downturn, as compared to the non-Aboriginal population. Using annual averages from the Labour Force Survey (LFS), covering the period of 2007 to 2015, the main focus is on Aboriginal people in the core working ages (25 to 54 years), although youth (aged 15 to 24 years) and older adults (aged 55 years and older) are considered separately. In addition to Aboriginal group, labour market indicators are distinguished by gender, geography (province/region of residence), education, lone parenthood, and marital status. The distribution of work characteristics (e.g., self-employment, sector of employment, usual work hours, wages, job tenure, industry, and occupation) by Aboriginal group are also explored.

The 2012 APS represents the fourth cycle of the survey and focuses on issues of education, employment and health.

    A comparatively young and growing population, Métis represent an emerging force within the Canadian labour market. Comparisons within the Labour Force Survey reveal that Métis have labour market characteristics that closely resemble those of the total population in Canada. This study profiles the labour market characteristics of Métis aged 15 years and over using the 2012 Aboriginal Peoples Survey. Employment, unemployment and additional factors such as occupation, job tenure and job permanence were considered.

It includes analyses of personal, family and school-related experiences during the last year of school, postsecondary education profiles and selected characteristics of workers, the unemployed and those not in the labour force. As well, the article addresses the subject of barriers to further education or training.

    This report provides an overview of the labour market outcomes of Aboriginal people during and after the labour market downturn. It covers the period of 2008 to 2010, using annual averages by several demographic and labour market activity indicators available from the Labour Force Survey (LFS). It is divided by age group, as well as, when possible, by the Aboriginal identity groups: First Nations people living off-reserve and Métis. The Inuit population are included in the Aboriginal total but not separately as most estimates for this group were not reliable. The report also distinguishes Aboriginal labour market outcomes by gender, province or region and job characteristics such as industry, occupation, hours worked and highest level of education attained.
