Description: The paper focuses on the subset of short-term rentals (STRs) that could potentially serve as long-term housing. This subset of STRs, referred to as potential long-term dwellings (PLTDs), is intended to capture STR units that are not serving as anyone’s primary residence, but could potentially function as long-term housing (either as owner-occupied or rental units). Each file contains anonymous individual responses on a large number of variables. The PUMF user can group and manipulate these variables to suit his/her own data and research requirements. Tabulations not included in other census products can be created or relationships between variables can be analysed by using different statistical tests. PUMFs provide quick access to a comprehensive social and economic database about Canada and its people. All subject-matter covered by the census is included in the microdata files. However, to ensure the anonymity of the respondents, geographic identifiers have been restricted to the provinces/territories and large metropolitan areas. Microdata files have traditionally been disseminated on magnetic tape, which required access to a mainframe computer. For the first time, the 1991 PUMFs will also be available on CD-ROM for microcomputer applications. This file contains data based on a 3% of the population enumerated in the 1991 Census. It provides information on the demographic, social and economic characteristics of the Canadian population. The Households and Housing File allows users to return to the base unit of the census, enabling them to group and manipulate the data to suit their own data and research requirements.

This product provides two basic tools to assist users in accessing and using the 1991 Census Public Use Microdata File - Households and Housing CD-ROM.

Microdata files are unique among census products in that they give users access to non-aggregated data. The user can group and manipulate these variables to suit data and research requirements. Tabulations excluded from other census products can be created or relationships between variables can be analysed using different statistical tests. These files provide quick access to a comprehensive social and economic database about Canada and its people. Most of the census subject matter is included in the microdata files. For the anonymity of respondents, geographic identifiers have been restricted to provinces, territories and large metropolitan areas.

Note: This product will be released in 2 phases, Phase 1 (release May 17, 2006) and Phase 2 (released June 30, 2006). Phase 1 will contain the following: (1) the data file (2) portions of the user documentation (3) the SAS and SPSS code.

Phase 2 will contain the COMPLETE product, including the following additional information: (1) conversion factors (2) tools used to measure the quality (3) a users' guide which provides step-by-step instructions on how to use the Quality application.

Clients who have purchased Phase 1 of this product will automatically receive Phase 2, the complete product.

Description: The Rural Canada Housing Profiles (RCHP) 2018 to 2021 provides tables on housing in rural Canada. The tables were developed using data from several Statistics Canada programs: 2021 Census of Population, Canadian Housing Statistics Program (2018 to 2021), Building Permits (2018 to 2021) and Investment in Building Construction (2018 to 2021). Information such as structure type (single or multiple residential property), year of construction, size of the building, and construction intentions (building permits issued by municipalities, number of units / value of the building) were used to provide a broader picture of housing stocks, flows and investments in rural communities. The final output is five data tables (residential building permits; investment in residential building construction; residential property characteristics; occupied private dwelling characteristics; and private household characteristics). Data are organized geographically at the following levels (where applicable): Canada, provinces or territories, census subdivisions (CSD). Aggregates are provided for rural and urban parts of Canada, provinces, and territories, while indication is provided as to whether a CSD is considered rural or urban according to the definition used - CSDs outside census metropolitan areas (CMAs) and census agglomerations (CAs) are defined as 'rural', while CSDs within a CMA/CA are defined as 'urban'.

Description: With an increase in the number of international students and a greater need for affordable housing, questions have arisen about international students housing experiences. This article examines international students’ prevalence of living in unsuitable housing across municipalities enumerated in the 2021 Census of Population long-form questionnaire. The report also presents the rates of unsuitable housing for international students from different source countries and provides comparisons with Canadian-born students.

Description: This paper looks at how extreme weather claims have impacted the insurance industry in Canada from 2020 to 2023. A specific focus is given to homeowners insurance, which during this time, homeowners insurance consumer price index exceeded all items inflation. Insurer profitability and consumer impacts are analyzed given the significant uptick in catastrophic claims. All four years analyzed ranked in the top 10 most costly claims years in Canadian history, costing billions each year. In addition, other contributing factors are explored to provide a robust overview of trends in profitability of the insurance industry.
