Release date: 2010-11-30 - Profile of a community or region: 94-581-X2006002Description:
Using 2006 Census data, this profile provides a statistical overview of the income and earnings, and housing and shelter costs variables, as well as all other variables that have already been released, for Canada, provinces, territories, census divisions, census subdivisions and dissemination areas.
In the census product line, groups of variables, such as this one, are referred to as release components of profiles. These are made available with the major releases of variables of the census cycle, starting with age and sex. Together, they will form a complete cumulative profile of all the variables for each level of geography, plus one cumulative profile for the dissolved census subdivisions.
Starting with the age and sex major day of release, and on major days of release thereafter, profile component data will be available for particular topics at the Canada, province and territory, census division and census subdivision levels, at the census metropolitan area, census agglomeration and census tract levels, and at the federal electoral district (based on the 2003 Representation Order) level. Profile component data for all other standard areas, including dissemination areas, urban areas, designated places and forward sortation areas, will be available approximately four weeks after the major days of release.

- Public use microdata: 72M0003XDescription: The public use microdata file for the Canadian Income Survey (CIS) provides information on the income and income sources of Canadians, along with their individual and household characteristics. This file includes many safeguards to prevent the identification of any one person.Release date: 2024-01-12
- Public use microdata: 75M0010XDescription: The cross-sectional public-use microdata file for the Survey of Labour and Income Dynamics (SLID) is a collection of income, labour and family variables on persons in Canada and their families. This file includes many safeguards to prevent the identification of any one person.
Although often referred to as a single file, the SLID public-use microdata file is actually four separate files: key, person, economic family and census family.
The person file contains identifier data, which allows a researcher to group persons into households, economic families and census families, as well as link each of these files together.
Release date: 2014-07-30 - Public use microdata: 99M0001XDescription: The Individuals File, 2011 National Household Survey (Public Use Microdata Files) provides data on the characteristics of the Canadian population. The file contains a 2.7% sample of anonymous responses to the 2011 National Household Survey (NHS) questionnaire. The files have been carefully scrutinized to ensure the complete confidentiality of the individual responses and geographic identifiers have been restricted to provinces/territories and metropolitan areas. With 133 variables, this comprehensive tool is excellent for policy analysts, pollsters, social researchers and anyone interested in modelling and performing statistical regression analysis using National Household Survey data.
Microdata files uniquely provide users access to non-aggregated data. The PUMFs user can group and manipulate these variables to suit data and research requirements. Tabulations excluded from other NHS products can be created or relationships between variables can be analyzed using different statistical tests. PUMFs provide quick access to a comprehensive social and economic database about Canada and its people.
This product, offered on DVD-ROM, contains the data file (in ASCII format); user documentation and supporting information; all licence agreements; and SAS, SPSS and Stata program source codes to enable users to read the set of records. It is important to note that users will require knowledge of data manipulation packages (or software) such as SAS, SPSS or Stata to use this product.
Release date: 2023-09-12 - Public use microdata: 99M0002XDescription: This hierarchical PUMF product provides access to non-aggregated data covering a sample of 1% of the Canadian households. It is a comprehensive social, demographic and economic database about Canada and its people, and contains a wealth of characteristics on the population. The file enables the study of individuals in relation to their census families, economic families and households. The geographic identifiers have been restricted to the provinces, the three territories grouped into a region called Northern Canada and selected metropolitan areas (Toronto, Montréal, Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary) to ensure respondents’ anonymity. This comprehensive tool is excellent for policy analysts, pollsters, social researchers and anyone interested in modeling and performing statistical regression analysis using 2011 National Household Survey data.
The Individuals File was released on July 29, 2014 and the Hierarchical File is available as of today, December 9, 2014.
This product, available in DVD-ROM format, contains a data file in American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) format as well as user documentation. It contains SAS, SPSS and Stata program source codes to enable users to read the set of records. Note: Users will require knowledge of data manipulation and retrieval software such as SAS, SPSS or Stata to be able to use this product.
Release date: 2023-09-12 - Public use microdata: 95M0016XDescription: This file provides data on the characteristics of the population. The 2001 Census Public Use Microdata Files (PUMFs) contain samples of anonymous responses to the 2001 Census questionnaire. The files have been carefully scrutinized to ensure the complete confidentiality of the individual responses. Three files are available: the Individuals File, the Families File, and the Households and Housing File.
Microdata files are unique among census products in that they give users access to non-aggregated data. The PUMFs user can group and manipulate these variables to suit data and research requirements. Tabulations excluded from other census products can be created or relationships between variables can be analysed using different statistical tests. PUMFs provide quick access to a comprehensive social and economic database about Canada and its people.
Most of the subject matter covered by the census is included in the microdata files. To ensure the respondents' anonymity, geographic identifiers have been restricted to provinces/territories and large metropolitan areas.
Note: Please be advised that errors have been detected in the data for two variables contained on the revised version of this CD-ROM. As well, we have added a unique record identifier called PPSORT, built/included in the file for administrative purposes only. The affected variables are: Income status (2000 low income cut-offs) (INCSTP) Ethnic origin (ETHNICRA) Further details can be found in the "Errata" file offered in several formats on the new, re-issued CD-ROM. Release date: 2023-09-12 - Public use microdata: 95M0008XDescription: Microdata files are unique among census products in that they give users access to unaggregated data. This makes the public use microdata files (PUMFs) powerful research tools. Each file contains anonymous individual responses on a large number of variables. The PUMF user can group and manipulate these variables to suit his/her own data and research requirements. Tabulations not included in other census products can be created or relationships between variables can be analysed by using different statistical tests. PUMFs provide quick access to a comprehensive social and economic database about Canada and its people. All subject-matter covered by the census is included in the microdata files. However, to ensure the anonymity of the respondents, geographic identifiers have been restricted to the provinces/territories and large metropolitan areas. Microdata files have traditionally been disseminated on magnetic tape, which required access to a mainframe computer. For the first time, the 1991 PUMFs will also be available on CD-ROM for microcomputer applications. This file contains data based on a 3% of the population enumerated in the 1991 Census. It provides information on the demographic, social and economic characteristics of the Canadian population. The Households and Housing File allows users to return to the base unit of the census, enabling them to group and manipulate the data to suit their own data and research requirements.
This product provides two basic tools to assist users in accessing and using the 1991 Census Public Use Microdata File - Households and Housing CD-ROM.
Release date: 2023-09-12 - 7. The Survey of Self-employment ArchivedPublic use microdata: 71M0017XDescription:
This microdata file contains survey data from the Survey of Self-employment. The survey was conducted in April 2000 by Statistics Canada on behalf of Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC). It collected data on the socio-demographic characteristics of the self-employed, as well as the hours they work, previous work experience, participation in dental, health and disability plans, income security, and their attitudes towards self-employment.
Nearly one worker out of six was self-employed in 2000, and most of these individuals became and remained self-employed by choice, according to the first results from the Survey of Self-employment. Strong growth in the number of self-employed Canadians that was observed in the 1990s stimulated interest in self-employment. Among the existing sources of information on this topic, the most extensive is Statistics Canada article The Self-employed in the publication Labour force update (71-005-XPB, Autumn 1997, Vol. 1 no.3.) which portrayed the self-employed using data from the Labour Force Survey (LFS), the annual Survey of Consumer Finances, and the 1995 Survey of Work Arrangements. It provided a thorough picture of the basic socio-demographic characteristics of this population, but due to the lack of data it did not cover several specific aspects of self-employment. Human Resources Development undertook to enrich the data sources on self-employment by funding a survey devoted entirely to this topic.

This file provides data on the characteristics of the population such as ethnic origin, labour force activity and income levels. It contains 122 variables.
The Microdata Files contain samples of anonymous responses to the 1996 Census questionnaire. PUMFs enable the development of statistical information about Canadians, the families and households to which they belong, and the dwellings in which they live.
Microdata files are unique among census products in that they give users access to non-aggregated data. This makes PUMFs a powerful research tools. The user can group and manipulate these variables to suit his/her own data and research requirements. These provide quick access to a comprehensive social and economic database about Canada and its people.
All subject matter covered by the census is included in these files.
