- Articles and reports: 36-28-0001202600900002Description: This study compares employment income trajectories of childhood immigrants (persons admitted to Canada at age 17 or younger) who became certified journeypersons through apprenticeship completion or trade qualifiers between 2008 and 2018 with their Canadian-born counterparts. Using integrated administrative data, the study assesses earnings four and two years before certification, at certification, and two and four years after certification to examine differences in income levels and trajectories over time. This longitudinal analysis identifies when income disparities between groups arise and whether these differences decrease, remain stable, or grow as individuals transition to journeyperson status.Release date: 2026-09-23
- Articles and reports: 36-28-0001202600800002Description: This study examines disparities in apprenticeship certification and employment income among childhood immigrants (individuals who arrive in Canada before age 18) and Canadian-born apprentices by sex. Specifically, two research questions are addressed: (1) whether the likelihood of obtaining certification varies between childhood immigrant and Canadian-born apprentices by sex, before and after accounting for sociodemographic, program and employment characteristics; and (2) whether annual earnings (log) among certified journeypersons vary by childhood immigrant status and sex before, at, and after certification, and whether these differences persist after accounting for other factors.Release date: 2026-08-26

- Articles and reports: 81-595-M2021001Description:
This is the first research paper by Statistics Canada using high school administrative data from the British Columbia (BC) Ministry of Education integrated with the Education and Labour Market Longitudinal Platform. It builds upon BC’s Student Transitions Project to answer the questions: Are high school graduates with certain types of special education needs less likely to attend postsecondary education than graduates without special education needs? Are graduates with certain types of special education needs more likely to delay entering postsecondary education than graduates without special education needs? If so, does the gap in enrolment close over time? Finally, this paper will examine whether graduates with certain types of special education needs are more or less likely to enter specific educational qualifications than graduates without special education needs within six years of graduating from high school.
