There were 79,863 new registrations in Canada in 2018; a 12% increase from 2017.

Three trades with the most new registrations in 2018:

  • Carpenters: 8,700
  • Construction electricians: 8,670
  • Automotive service technicians: 3,870.

The number of certificates granted increased by 7% between 2017 and 2018:

  • Apprentices: + 6%
  • Trade qualifiers:Footnote 1 + 8%
  • Red Seal trades:Footnote 2 + 12%
  • Non-Red Seal trades: + 2%.

Although the hairstylist trade remains the most popular among women, over the last decade, more women have been moving into trades traditionally occupied by men.
