Description: This Juristat article provides insight into the prevalence, characteristics and consequences of dating violence among teens aged 15 to 17 in Canada. Violence between dating partners can include criminal acts such as physical and sexual violence, as well as acts that may not reach the criminal threshold (e.g., emotional and psychological abuse) but which can nonetheless have negative consequences for victims. Teens’ attitudes towards violence and control in intimate relationships are also presented. Findings are based on self-reported data collected through the 2018 Survey of Safety in Public and Private Spaces and on police-reported data from the Uniform Crime Reporting Survey. Where possible, comparisons between genders, age groups and other populations of interest are presented.

- to find out what child care arrangements and options parents prefer;- to find out what influences child care needs, use patterns and preferences;- to examine how different child care patterns affect children, and parents, both on an individual basis and in relationship to each other;- to find out how parents feel about the affordability and quality of major child care options.

Description: Using retrospective data from the Survey of Safety in Public and Private Spaces (SSPPS), this Juristat article examines factors associated with an elevated likelihood of experiencing childhood victimization and further identifies adult outcomes that are associated with experiences of childhood victimization, including adult mental and physical health, drug and alcohol use, and subsequent victimization in adulthood. The article also includes information on additional experiences of child maltreatment, including experiences of emotional abuse and neglect and witnessing violence in the home.

This paper presents an estimate of unpaid childcare, other unpaid household activities, and paid employment in Canadian provinces for the period from 1998 to 2015. The estimate is then used to assess the effects of the low-cost childcare program launched in Quebec in 1997 on paid employment and to examine the contribution of unpaid childcare and other unpaid household activities to wellbeing and welfare in Canada.

Description: The survey asks parents and guardians about the arrangements they use for their child aged 0 to 5, including the associated costs, the difficulties they may have faced when looking for care, and what their preferences for child care are. This survey also collects information on parents' and guardian's labour market participation to better understand the interaction between work and the use of early learning and child care arrangements. Results from this survey will be used to help improve the Canada-wide early learning and child care system and provide Canadians with a strong baseline of data to measure progress and changes to the system.
