    Description: Infrastructure is the physical structures and systems that support the production of goods and services and their delivery to and consumption by governments, businesses and citizens. The industry undertaking that infrastructure investment is also presented. Accumulating investment flows over time produces an estimate of the stock of infrastructure assets. The perpetual inventory method is used as it estimates a value of the net stock of fixed assets in existence and in the hands of producers which is generally based on estimating how many of the fixed assets installed, as a result of investment undertaken in previous years, have survived to the current period. The depreciation of that stock is calculated using the geometric method with asset specific depreciation profiles.

    Description: Three Ontario pilot hog surveys were conducted in 1975 to test a sampling method based on the simultaneous use of two list frames. This paper describes the different aspects of the experience. Particular emphasis is given to the double frame methodology such as discussed by Hartley [11]. Optimal allocation of the sample between frames is considered, with revision for each following survey based on all the accumulated results.

Here, techniques which impute means (whether conditional or unconditional) distort rather than improve the quality of the data. A probabilistic model is described which provides reasonable estimates, but also upholds the integrity of the data base. Results are given from a comparative study of the proposed methodology with other estimation/imputation models.

    Description: This paper presents the Behrens-Fisher problem and gives an overview of the major solutions brought forward to this date. The aim of the paper is to use the most appropriate approach to the problem for testing sets of six month Labour Force Survey data against those of a pilot study. This is done since in many cases (such as Methods Test Panel studies) studies are conducted for six consecutive months and comparisons are required on the basis of those sets of six month data. Empirical results are also given by testing Methods Test Panel Phase III data against corresponding Labour Force Survey data.

    Description: Multi-stage statistical surveys as a means of obtaining socioeconomic characteristics for the population have been in use for many years. Each survey requires an extensive and precise sample design which is governed by the cost structure for obtaining the data and the variance of the characteristic data between units at various stages of sampling. The authors analyzed variance components derived from one month's data of the Canadian Labour Force Survey and examined the variance that would have resulted under different allocation strategies in Table 6 and for different average sizes of units in Table 7. The percentage components of variance, the design effects by stage of sampling and population variances between units of the various stages, as well as measures of homogeneity for households within stages, are derived and shown in Tables 2 to 5.

    The analysis was carried out for the Canadian Labour Force Survey, but the methodology of component of variance estimation (Gray [4]) and the methods used to analyze the results of a particular survey are readily applied to any multi-stage statistical sample survey, where Horvitz-Thompsen estimators and ratio estimation are applied.

    Description: In the Methods Test Panel Phase II it was required to do analysis of variance on proportions. Since such analysis gives only approximate results, two models were used in order to be able to draw safe conclusions. Analysis of variance was performed with the proportions as variable and also with the arc sine of the square root of the proportions. The two models are outlined in the present paper and empirical comparisons are made using the MTP Phase II data.

CRDC 2020 Version 2.0 is composed of 3 main pieces: the type of activity or TOA (with 3 categories), the field of research or FOR (with 1,671 fields at the lowest level) and socioeconomic objective or SEO (with 85 main groups at the lowest level).

    Description: Data from the Census of Population are important for all communities and are vital to plan services that support education, employment, transportation, health care and housing. To maintain the relevance of the census, Statistics Canada evaluates and reviews the census questionnaire content for each census cycle. In preparation for the 2026 Census, Statistics Canada consulted Canadians from fall 2022 to spring 2023. Detailed responses were received from organizations and individuals representing federal, provincial, territorial and local government departments; First Nations people, Métis and Inuit; the general public; academia; special interest groups; and the private sector.

    This report focuses on the findings of the 2026 Census data needs consultation and stakeholder discussions. Chapter 1 explains whom we consulted. Chapter 2 describes the strength of census data users’ needs such as the size of the population of interest. Chapter 3 provides an assessment of the perceived data gaps in census content and the availability and suitability of alternative data sources. Chapter 4 focuses on information needs by census topic and how preparations for the 2024 Census Test will help meet these needs.

    Description: This report presents the results of a study on the estimated number of children eligible for instruction in the minority official language, pursuant to section 23 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, who were classified as ineligible in the 2021 Census because relationships between family members living at different addresses could not be established within this data source. Using other data sources, including previous censuses and administrative data (such as vital statistics and tax data), we were able to establish these family relationships within the 2021 Census. This report presents the methods and data sources used first, then the results by selected regions and age groups.
