Description: This comprehensive data visualization tool overviews counts of enrolments and graduations for elementary to postsecondary education. It also includes the cost of tuition for full-time studies at Canadian degree-granting postsecondary public institutions for the current academic year (September to April). Data for this dashboard is related to the following three surveys: Tuition and Living Accommodation Costs (TLAC), Elementary-Secondary Education Survey (ESES), and the Postsecondary Student Information System (PSIS). For the postsecondary education, this interactive tool features characteristics of students enrolled in, or graduating from postsecondary programs offered in public postsecondary institutions in Canada (such as gender and status of student in Canada). It also provides an overview of program characteristics based on the International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED 2011) and on the Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP Canada 2016 cannabis variant) STEM/BHASE groupings. It also details new enrolments (by gender, age group, and student status) for the most common credential programs offered within universities and colleges.

It looks at changes in employment income, income-replacement benefits (COVID-19 benefits and employment insurance) and the combination of these two income types. For its part, Canada also looks to immigrants and their children to provide higher-level skills to the labour market. This paper examines the effect of the mother’s and father’s education on the likelihood of a childhood immigrant who arrived in Canada at age 17 or younger, completing postsecondary education. The paper further determines whether there is significant variation in these relationships among immigrants from different source regions.

Description: Using the Longitudinal Immigration Database (IMDB) integrated with the Postsecondary Student Information System (PSIS) and the T1 Family File (T1FF), this study explores the Canadian postsecondary educational attainment and employment income of immigrants from the “economic immigrant” programs who were granted permanent residency based on their ability to contribute to the Canadian economy. The analysis compares the skilled immigrants who returned to postsecondary education after admission to Canada to those who did not return to postsecondary education and explores their potential difficulty to transfer their educational qualifications onto the Canadian labour market.

The Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) is used for classifying instructional programs according to field of study. CIP was originally created by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) in the United States. It is a hierarchical classification. The classification provides a detailed description of each instructional program class together with illustrative examples of the types of instructional programs found in that class. Illustrative examples are also provided of closely related programs that are classified elsewhere. In addition, the classification includes an introduction to CIP and an alternative structure for the aggregation of field of study data. CIP has a ten-year revision cycle.
