New data from the Canadian Housing Statistics Program (CHSP) provide more information about residential multiple-property owners in the province of British Columbia, Ontario, and in Nova Scotia whose usual residence is in one of these provinces for the reference year 2018. These data complement the previous June 2019 release of by including findings specific to residential owners with multiple properties. The new data provides information on the location of these of owners, their demographic characteristics, as well as the property types they own.

Description: From 1980 to 2017, Canada welcomed 1,088,000 refugees, an average of about 30,000 per year. For many refugees, homeownership is an important milestone in their path to social and economic integration. This article in the Economic Insights series highlights new data on homeownership among residents who came to Canada as resettled refugees. It reports on how the stock of refugee-owned housing in Vancouver and Toronto compares to that of Canadian-born residents, highlighting differences in property values across various segments of the housing market. Information on the location, age and size of properties and on the age and income of property owners is used to assess relative differences in property values between the two groups. Estimates are based on data developed by the Canadian Housing Statistics Program, released in December 2018.

New data from the Canadian Housing Statistics Program (CHSP) provide more information about residential property owners in Ontario and British Columbia, and new information about owners in Nova Scotia, for 2018. Although preliminary CHSP data for owners in Ontario and British Columbia were published in June 2018, these new data complement the previous release by including owners in Nova Scotia, as well as non-individual owners (businesses, governments, etc.) and non-resident owners (owners who do not live primarily in Canada). The new data also provide a demographic profile of individual resident owners and information about owner-occupied properties. This infographic presents the new data highlighting certain characteristics of property owners, including the owner occupancy rates of selected residential properties.

The study aims to discuss homelessness in Canada. Using data from the 2016 Census of Population, we shed light on a segment of homelessness by characterising individuals who were staying in a shelter on Census Day in 2016. The study profiles these individuals by geography, age, sex, and marital status. The study also looks more closely at income levels and income sources in order to highlight the differences between residents who live in particular types of shelters as well as the population living in private dwellings.
