These results are compared to those from the previous 2012 and 2002 Canadian Community Health Survey – Mental Health cycles. Description: Labour shortages in health care professions have become a pressing issue across many Canadian jurisdictions and were especially exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. To help address these shortages, federal, provincial and territorial governments have implemented measures to facilitate the entry of skilled immigrants with health care qualifications into their respective professions, among other government actions to strengthen the health workforce. However, comprehensive data on the numbers, sociodemographic characteristics and labour market outcomes of internationally educated health professionals (IEHPs) remain scarce. This article provides estimates of the number of IEHPs in Canada based on 2021 Census data.

This study describes the size and age structure of the Canadian veteran population forecasted by Veterans Affairs Canada. Veteran health was examined for two eras of Regular Force veterans. The health of earlier-era veterans (released between 1954 and 2003) was examined using the 2003 Canadian Community Health Survey. The health of recent-era veterans (released between 1998 and 2012) was examined using the 2013 Life After Service Survey. Health indicators for veterans were compared with the Canadian general population.

Policy analysts continue to search for alternative, less costly forms of care for the elderly and have attempted to develop programs to delay or prevent nursing-home entry.
