- Articles and reports: 36-28-0001202400800004Description: Work arrangements changed during the COVID-19 pandemic, as organizations switched to working from home on a large scale and used digital technologies to adapt to physical distancing mandates. It is largely unknown how changes to work arrangements since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic have impacted persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Canada. This article focuses on whether needs and unmet needs for WPAs among employed Canadians with disabilities have changed since 2017, with the widespread deployment of working from home and digital technologies.Release date: 2024-08-28

- Articles and reports: 82-003-X202400800001Description: An extensive literature shows wide variations in life expectancy (LE) across various subnational geographic areas. However, little is known about these variations across very small levels of geographic disaggregation in Canada. This study expands the boundaries for such analyses by focusing on metropolitan areas, allowing an examination of small area variations in LE that cannot be ascribed to provincial or federal-level health, social, and other policies and programs, as more than one metropolitan area per province can be studied.Release date: 2024-08-21

Persons with disabilities are at a higher risk of experiencing household food insecurity (HFI) than those without disabilities. The main objectives of this study were to estimate the prevalence of HFI for persons with different types, numbers, and severity of disabilities, and to examine sociodemographic correlates of HFI among this group.Release date: 2024-08-21

- 1,622. Estimating the population and characteristics of health facilities and client populations using a linked multi-stage sample survey design ArchivedArticles and reports: 12-001-X19970023615Description:
This paper demonstrates the utility of a multi-stage survey design that obtains a total count of health facilities and of the potential client population in an area. The design has been used for a state-level survey conducted in mid-1995 in Uttar Pradesh, India. The design involves a multi-stage, areal cluster sample, wherein the primary sampling unit is either an urban block or rural village. All health service delivery points, either self-standing facilities or distribution agents, in or formally assigned to the primary sampling unit are mapped, listed, and selected. A systematic sample of households is selected, and all resident females meeting predetermined eligibility criteria are interviewed. Sample weights for facilities and individuals are applied. For facilities, the weights are adjusted for survey response levels. The survey estimate of the total number of government facilities compares well against the total published counts. Similarly the female client population estimated in the survey compares well with the total enumerated in the 1991 census.

Release date: 1997-10-07 - 1,630. New Birth Cohort Life Tables for Canada and Quebec, 1801-1991 ArchivedArticles and reports: 91F0015M1997003Geography: Canada, Province or territoryDescription:
For historical reasons, the best known life tables and those most often used are period tables. They are built using death rates by age for a short period of observation (often a single year) and have as their purpose to represent the status of mortality for this period. The survivors and deaths appearing in their columns are in a way abstractions rather than reality. It is thus erroneous to believe that the life table for a given year (for example, 1995) serves in any way whatever to predict the rate at which those born that year will pass away and, hence, of the average length of the life that they have just begun. With rare exceptions, the average number of years lived by individuals has always been longer than the life expectancy found in the life table constructed for the year of their birth. This is due to the fact that period tables are established using the risks of death by age prevailing in that year. But the ceaseless battle against death reduces these risks year after year for these ages and, by growing older, people benefit from these successive gains.
To reconstitute (or foresee) the rate at which the members of a cohort have (or will) really pass away, it is necessary to deploy very long series of death rates by age and to possess reliable indicators of missing data, and then to adjust them to establish the actual experience of the persons in a cohort. Built in exactly the same way as period tables, these tables are naturally called cohort tables, but comparing observations of their parameters yields conclusions of a different kind.
