Description: Previous research has shown that Black adults in Canada experience higher cause-specific mortality and differential rates of diagnosis and hospitalization compared with White adults. These disparities may reflect underlying differences in access to health care. This study used pooled data from the annual Canadian Community Health Survey from 2015 to 2019 to assess whether inequalities in access to primary and pharmaceutical health care exist between Black and White adults in Canada and sought to identify how specific factors contribute to observed inequalities.

Specifically, the study examines differences in access between recent immigrants, established immigrants and non-immigrants, and how these patterns vary by demographic and socioeconomic factors.

Description: Girls and young women experience poorer mental health than boys and young men, although the reverse is true for substance use disorders. This study examines whether predisposing characteristics such as immigrant status, population group, rural or urban status, sexual orientation, and neighbourhood income level are correlated with the prevalence of receiving mental health services and substance use disorders, access to formal health supports, and satisfaction with these supports among girls and young women in Canada.

Previous studies have identified several factors associated with unmet home care needs, including living arrangements, education, income, access to a regular medical doctor, chronic conditions, health status, and functional limitations. However, less is known about the extent to which unmet home care needs vary across the health and care-receiving profiles of the oldest-old Canadians. This study aims to enhance the understanding of the heterogeneity among the community-dwelling population aged 85 years and older in Canada.

Policy analysts continue to search for alternative, less costly forms of care for the elderly and have attempted to develop programs to delay or prevent nursing-home entry.
