    According to the 2006 Participation and Activity Limitation Survey (PALS), over 4.4 million Canadians, 14% of the population, reported at least one physical or mental condition limiting them in their daily activities. Moreover, with an ageing population, that number is expected to grow in the coming years. It is now all the more important to get an accurate picture of criminal victimization of persons with disabilities in Canada.

    Based essentially on 2004 General Social Survey (GSS) data, this profile presents an analysis of the links between criminal victimization and activity limitations, and certain other health factors. In particular, it analyzes characteristics of incidents, victims and their perpetrators. Finally, the perceptions of persons with activity limitations of crime and the justice system are discussed.

    The New Zealand Ministry of Health has expanded its population health survey, the New Zealand Health Survey (NZHS), to include a questionnaire specifically on child health. The principal aim of the NZHS child questionnaire is to collect health data from parents or caregivers that can be used for monitoring population-level child health status, health service utilisation, and the health risk and protective behaviours that have their origins in childhood. Previously, only data collected through child contact with the health system, for example hospital administration records and disease/injury databases, have been available for monitoring child health in New Zealand. This paper reviews the questionnaire development for the child health component of the 2006/2007 New Zealand Health Survey, including topic selection, question development, cognitive-testing, preliminary sample design, final questionnaire drafting, and dress rehearsal testing.

    The Canadian Survey on Disability (CSD) is a national survey of Canadians aged 15 and over whose everyday activities are limited because of a long-term condition or health-related problem.

    The 2017 CSD Concepts and Methods Guide is designed to assist CSD data users by providing relevant information on survey content and concepts, sampling design, collection methods, data processing, data quality and product availability. Chapter 1 of this guide provides an overview of the 2017 CSD by introducing the survey's background and objectives. Chapter 2 explains the key concepts and definitions and introduces the indicators measured by the CSD questionnaire modules. Chapters 3 to 6 cover important aspects of survey methodology, from sampling design to data collection and processing. Chapters 7 and 8 cover issues of data quality, including the approaches used to minimize and correct errors throughout all stages of the survey. Users are cautioned against making comparisons with data from the 2012 CSD. Chapter 9 outlines the survey products that are available to the public, including data tables, an analytical article and reference material. Appendices provide more detail on the survey's indicators and other supporting documents for the CSD.

How do I use the filters and the search box?

How do I refine my search?

  • You can enter keywords in the search box. It is not necessary to use “+” or “, “ or “AND”.

  • You can delete some or all of the keywords from your search string.

  • Quotes around keywords limit the search to a specific phrase.

    • For example, “labour force survey” will limit results to products containing this phrase.

  • Use “or” between keywords to obtain results that contain one or more search terms.

The Sort by feature provides three options:

  • By date – sorts results by product release date starting with the most recent.
  • By relevance is only needed or beneficial when you use the search box and submit a search query. Results are ordered by a combination of where the search term appears in the content, e.g., if it appears in the title, it likely means the product is more relevant to your search; how up to date or new the content in the product is; how popular the product is; and other factors.
  • By title – sorts results alphabetically.
