Description: The purpose of the Police Administration Survey (PAS) is to collect statistics on public policing personnel and expenditures from municipal, provincial and federal police services in Canada. The information collected is used by federal and provincial policy makers, individual police services as well as officials responsible for police budgets. The data are also used by the media for the purpose of providing information to the general public.

Description: The Public-Use Microdata File (PUMF) for the Survey of Household Spending (SHS) provides information on household expenditures as well as selected information on dwelling characteristics and household equipment. The production of this file includes many safeguards to prevent the identification of any one person or household.

PUMFs were produced on an annual basis for SHS 1997 to 2009, before a redesigned survey was introduced with the 2010 reference year. The SHS 2017 PUMF is the first SHS PUMF based on data collected after the 2010 survey redesign.

Due to changes to data collection, processing and estimation methods introduced with the 2010 redesign, users are advised not to compare data from SHS 1997 to 2009 with data from any subsequent years, unless otherwise noted.

Description: This dashboard displays average expenditure per household estimates by geography (Canada, regions, provinces; the three territorial capitals), household tenure, household type and household income quintile. For each domain, users can view, compare and download expenditure estimates for a number of spending categories, both as a time-series and for a specific reference year. Data are updated following the release of a Survey of Household Spending (SHS) cycle.

Description: The Industry Accounts Division of Statistics Canada publishes annual provincial supply and use tables. While these industry by product tables closely reflect actual economic transactions, certain analytical and modeling purposes, however, require symmetric industry-by-industry input-output tables. The provincial symmetric industry by industry tables show inter-industry transactions, that is, all purchases of an industry from all other industries including expenditures on imports and inventory withdrawals as well as all expenditures on primary inputs. Similarly, the provincial symmetric final demand tables show all purchases by a final demand category from all other industries, including expenditures on imports and inventory withdrawals as well as all expenditures on indirect taxes.

These tables are available at the Detail level and at the Link-1997, Link-1961 and Summary aggregations. Explanation on the methodology used is provided to the user by contacting the Industry Accounts Division of Statistics Canada.

Description: This feasibility study uses Statistics Canada’s Financial Information of Universities (FINUNI) survey to calculate financial ratios for universities. These ratios use standardized financial data from the FINUNI survey and allow comparisons from one institution to another and over time. These ratios will measure dependency on private and public funding, the expense proportion of wages and salaries, scholarships and bursary expenses, and other significant fixed and variable financial revenues and expenses.

The file is produced at the economic family level with information on family demographics; income; financial behaviours and attitudes; principal residence; assets, debts and net worth; family composition and size; and, in years 2005 onward, the major income recipient.

Description: This public use microdata file provides unaggregated data on the Aboriginal adult population - those who identify with their Aboriginal origin(s) and those who do not. For persons who identify, it contains almost 700 variables from the 1991 survey, such as, the group with which they identify, language proficiency, disability, chronic health conditions, schooling, work experience and the 1991 Census variables such as, income levels, marital status, fertility. The same census variables are provided for the population who does not identify.

This article provides estimates on the value of cross-border shopping in the United States from 2006 to 2012, on an annual and quarterly basis. The study provides detailed values for overnight and same-day spending in the United States, postal and courier imports and motor vehicle imports. Total cross-border expenditures are compared to the Canadian retail trade sales, to provide a basis of comparison on the magnitude of these expenditures. The extent to which cross-border spending varies with movements in the Canadian/United States exchange rate is also examined. The cross-border estimates are derived from the Canadian System of National Accounts and their underlying survey and administrative data sources. The estimates are based on three different scenarios (low, medium and high) with each scenario based on different statistical assumptions. The low scenario represents the lower-bound estimates for cross-border shopping, while the high scenario represents the upper-bound estimates. The medium scenario is based on assumptions deemed to be the most plausible. All assumptions reflect professional judgement and build upon previous analysis.

This paper examines the composition of Canadian and United States gross national saving for a period spanning more than 80 years, using time series from the Bureau of Economic Analysis in the United States and a newly created dataset for Canada. The paper tracks short-term, year-to-year fluctuations, cyclical fluctuations and long-term compositional changes. It illustrates a substantial degree of national saving reallocation across sectors, annually and across business cycles. The national saving rate is more stable than sector saving rates, implying that sectoral changes have been largely offsetting.

This document summarizes the comments and feedback received on an earlier document: Towards a new Canadian asset and debt survey - A content discussion paper. The new asset and debt survey (now called the Survey of Financial Security) is to update the wealth information on Canadian families and unattached individuals. Since the last data collection was conducted in 1984, it was essential to include a consultative process in the development of the survey in order to obtain feedback on issues of concern and to define the conceptual framework for the survey.

Comments on the content discussion paper are summarized by major theme and sections indicate how the suggestions are being incorporated into the survey or why they could not be incorporated. This paper also mentions the main objectives of the survey and provides an overview of the survey content, revised according to the feedback from the discussion paper.

Given the number of data sources and their conceptual and methodological differences, it is sometimes very difficult for researchers and decision makers to obtain required information or data. This guide is a tool that has been developed to assist them. It provides a summary description of all Statistics Canada surveys related to adult education and training. From a selected variable, it allows the identification of surveys that can provide information. It also indicates relevant publications and how to obtain additional information.
