Canada–United States relative productivity small-firm disadvantage by industry, 2008
Table summary
This table shows the difference in the importance of smaller firms in Canada compared to the United States and the relative larger productivity levels of large firms to small ones. Both of these depress Canadian productivity relative to U.S. productivity. This information is grouped by goods producing and service producing industries to emphasize the industries where relative productivity disadvantage occurred. The Canadian and U.S. relative productivity of small to large firms (appearing as column headers) were calculated as a percent. The small firm share of hours worked in each country was calculated as a percentage of total business-sector by industry. The Canada/United States relative productivity small firm disadvantage (appearing as column headers) was calculated as a percentage of Canadian relative productivity to U.S. relative productivity. The Canada/United States relative small firm share (appearing as column headers) was calculated as a percentage of Canadian relative productivity to U.S. small firm share of hours worked.
