    Environmental issues are a priority for young people in Canada—and their actions often reflect this priority. For example, youth aged 15 to 30 make 5% of their total donations to environmental organizations (vs. 2% to 3% among older Canadians), and dedicate 7% of their volunteer hours to environmental organizations (vs. 3% to 6% among older Canadians). Youth tend to live in more walkable but less “green” neighbourhoods and use sustainable transportation to get to work more often than older adults (46% vs. 28%). This chapter provides an overview of how youth in Canada interact with and live in their environment. Data are taken from the 2016 Census of Population, the 2016 General Social Survey on Canadians at Work and Home, the 2018 General Social Survey on Giving, Volunteering and Participating, the 2019 Households and the Environment Survey, and other published reports.

    The article "Measuring ecosystem goods and services in Canada" presents preliminary results achieved through a two-year interdepartmental project to develop experimental ecosystem accounts and the required statistical infrastructure. These measures focus on land cover, human landscape modification, ecosystem potential of the boreal forest, biomass extraction, marine and coastal EGS, and wetland EGS. The report also includes a case study on the Thousand Islands National Park exploring monetary valuation of EGS and concludes with a research agenda for future work on this topic.

How are the results ordered?

The Sort by feature provides three options:

  • By date – sorts results by product release date starting with the most recent.
  • By relevance is only needed or beneficial when you use the search box and submit a search query. Results are ordered by a combination of where the search term appears in the content, e.g., if it appears in the title, it likely means the product is more relevant to your search; how up to date or new the content in the product is; how popular the product is; and other factors.
  • By title – sorts results alphabetically.
