In Canada, and around the world, demographic and socioeconomic transformations, notably the aging population, are increasing the demand for care workers. This study uses data from the 2016 Census of Population and from the Labour Force Survey to examine the personal and job characteristics of workers in paid care occupations by gender. It also examines how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the employment of workers in this sector, compared to workers in all other occupations.
