Description: The Extractive Sector Transparency Measures Act (ESTMA) Data Portal is a collaboration between Statistics Canada and Natural Resources Canada, which administers the ESTMA. The ESTMA helps the Government of Canada deter corruption in the extractive sector by requiring extractive entities that are active in Canada to publicly disclose, on an annual basis, certain types of payments made to governments in Canada and abroad. The goal of the data portal is to increase the accessibility and utility of the payment information collected under the ESTMA by bringing together all available ESTMA data in one online location, and further enriching the payment data with analytical functions that help users to leverage the complete ESTMA dataset. The database has also been designed with mobility in mind to ensure that users and stakeholders have mobile access to ESTMA data.

This table presents the major programs (e.g. Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy, Canada Emergency Response Benefit, etc.) within the System of Macroeconomic Accounts. The data are at quarterly rates and are not seasonally adjusted.

The federal government offers business innovation and growth support through program streams managed by its departments and agencies. In 2017, enterprises in the manufacturing sector accounted for almost one-quarter of the beneficiaries of this support and received almost one-third of the total value of support (Statistics Canada, 2020). The objective of this analysis is to assess the impact of federal growth and innovation support on the employment and revenue of beneficiary enterprises in the manufacturing sector between 2007 and 2017. This analysis suggests that enterprises that received federal support for growth and innovation experienced stronger employment and revenue growth relative to non-beneficiary enterprises. Over the three years following receipt of support, employment growth for beneficiary enterprises averaged 1.8% per year while, on average, enterprises that did not receive support experienced employment declines. Over the same period, the average annual revenue growth of beneficiary enterprises was higher than that of non-beneficiary enterprises by 4.6 percentage points.

The North American Product Classification System (NAPCS) is the departmental standard for the classification of products (goods and services). The classification is a joint project of the national statistical agencies of Canada, Mexico and the United States. The concepts and criteria contained in the guide are consistent with two internationally accepted classification standards: the System of National Accounts (SNA 2008) guide; and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Government Finance Statistics Manual 2001.

As well, the guide delineates the various public sector components that are used in compiling and aggregating public sector data. This structure also enables comparisons of Canadian government finance data with international macroeconomic statistical systems.
