The survey weights were updated to take into account new population estimates based on the 2006 Census rather than the 2001 Census. The Adult Literacy and Life Skills Survey assessed four foundation skills thought to be essential for social, professional and economic success - prose literacy, document literacy, numeracy and problem solving. Eleven countries, including Canada, participated in the most recent Adult Literacy and Life Skills Survey, which was conducted in two main waves between 2002 and 2008.This article summarizes the key findings reported in that report, focusing on problem-solving skills, their definition, distribution in the labour force and related labour market outcomes.

This article uses data from the Labour Force Survey to examine the sources and characteristics of the recent increase in self-employment, the dynamics of entry into and exit out of self-employment, and to assess the extent to which those who lost paid jobs early in the recession might account for the subsequent surge in self-employment.

The LFS collects monthly information on the labour market activities of Canada's working age population. Description: This product presents selected data from the linkage between the Census of Agriculture and the Census of Population at the national and provincial levels, every five years. It provides a socioeconomic profile of the farm population (i.e., operators and their families) at the person, family and household levels, and includes variables such as age, sex, marital status, ethnicity, country of birth, mother tongue, educational attainment and income.

Description: This study uses various demographic scenarios to examine the effects of different immigration levels and labour force participation rates on the size and composition of the Canadian labour force to 2041. Specifically, this article looks at various aspects of employment quality among health care workers, including absences, overtime and wages, and changes in work quality over the course of the pandemic. The article proceeds to explore how these changing job characteristics affected health care workers and their likelihood to leave their current positions.

The input-output multipliers are derived from the supply and use tables. They are used to assess the effects on the economy of an exogenous change in final demand for the output of a given industry. They provide a measure of the interdependence between an industry and the rest of the economy.

The national and provincial multipliers show the direct, indirect, and induced effects on gross output, the detailed components of GDP, jobs, and imports. Like the supply and use tables, the multipliers are presented at four levels of aggregation: Detail level (236 industries), Link-1997 level (187 industries), Link-1961 level (111 industries) and Summary level (35 industries).

Following the 2011 census, the LFS underwent a sample redesign to account for the evolution of the population and labour market characteristics, to adjust to changes in the information needs and to update the geographical information used to carry out the survey. The redesign program following the 2011 census culminated with the introduction of a new sample at the beginning of 2015.
