As the amount of data gathered increases, Statistics Canada has introduced infographics to help people, business owners, academics, and management at all levels, understand key information derived from the data. Health Reports, published by the Health Analysis Division of Statistics Canada, is a peer-reviewed journal of population health and health services research. It is designed for a broad audience that includes health professionals, researchers, policymakers, and the general public. The journal publishes articles of wide interest that contain original and timely analyses of national or provincial/territorial surveys or administrative databases. New articles are published electronically each month.

Health Reports had an impact factor of 5.0 for 2022 and a five-year impact factor of 5.6. All articles are indexed in PubMed. Our online catalogue is free and receives more than 700,000 visits per year. External submissions are welcome.

This paper estimates and examines the contribution to Gross domestic product (GDP) by men and by women in the Canadian economy for the first time. Up to now, increases in the educational attainment of women and their participation in the market economy are reflected in education and labour market statistics but the contribution of men and women to production has not been delineated. The paper implements a new method for measuring GDP for men and women between 2008 and 2018 based on administrative records. It informs on the rising share of activity attributable to women and documents those areas of GDP where women make the largest and smallest contributions.

Description: Using the Canadian Health Survey of Children and Youth (2019), this study provides an understanding of the prevalence and severity of self-reported experiences of bullying among sexually and gender diverse youth (aged 15 to 17). The study also looks at the association between bullying, sexual and gender diversity, and other socio-demographic characteristics, as well as the relationship between bullying and the overall health and well-being of sexually and gender diverse youth.

Description: Sylvia Ostry was appointed Canada’s first and only female Chief Statistician in 1972, but she didn’t get there by playing by the rules. She was ambitious but grew up in a world where many thought that it was shameful to be female and have a career.

Ostry was a Jewish woman in economics and, even after she earned a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge, she was denied a job with the United Nations because of her gender. Nevertheless, she had a storied career, becoming the Chairman of the Economic Council of Canada then the Chief Economist at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). But we're not focusing on her career highlights. We're going behind the scenes to look at how she challenged herself to succeed, becoming both a respected economist and mother, and how she handled setbacks and discrimination while staying true to herself and demonstrating the integrity for which she's remembered today.

In 2015, Canada witnessed its first gender-balanced federal cabinet. The share of women among candidates in federal elections and elected candidates has been increasing, although the share of women elected to the federal parliament remains lower than the share of female candidates. Using census data from 2016 and 2001, and the 2011 National Household Survey, this study presents a profile of individuals who worked as legislators in 2016 in the federal public administration; provincial or territorial public administration; or municipal, local or regional public administration, and highlights differences in socio-demographic characteristics between male and female legislators.

Using data from the Labour Force Survey, this article analyzes how women's full-time employment rates evolved from 2007 to 2021. Description: This articles outlines the methodology and some early results obtained from the Indigenous Peoples Economic Account pilot-project developed by Statistics Canada. This economic account includes economic indicators (GDP, output and total number of jobs) as well as a human resource module (HRM). The HRM provides additional demographic socio-economic information about the Indigenous paid workers holding a job, such as sex or education level. The estimates are available by industry and province/territory.
