This table shows population and dwelling counts summed for the seven components of the Statistical Area Classification (SAC). These SAC components include: all census metropolitan areas (CMAs); all census agglomerations (CAs); each of the four categories (strongly influenced, moderately influenced, weakly influenced and not influenced) of the CMA and CA influenced zones (MIZ) within the ten provinces; and all the territories (all of Nunavut, Northwest Territories and Yukon Territory, minus the data for CAs located in these territories).

The Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) is a collaborative effort among member countries of the OECD, designed to assess, on a regular basis, the achievement of 15-year-olds in reading, mathematical and scientific literacy through a common international test.

The 2001 Participation and Activity Limitation Survey (PALS) is a post-censal survey of adults and children whose everyday activities are limited because of a condition or health problem. A sample of those persons who answered "Yes" to the 2001 Census disability filter questions were included in the PALS survey population. Approximately 35,000 adults and 8,000 children living in private, and some collective, households in the 10 provinces were selected to participate in the survey. This report presents an overview of the methodological and content changes between the 1991 HALS and the 2001 PALS. The major differences include new census disability filter questions, a new sampling plan and new questionnaire content.

The result is poor air quality in urban and rural areas around the world.

This article addresses the following questions: What is the condition of our outdoor and indoor air? What effects does air quality have on our health and our environment? And what are governments and businesses doing to address air quality concerns?

This paper analyses the impacts of the 1981-82 and 1990-92 recessions on individual services industries. Quarterly changes in real GDP are analysed for each major services industry, and impacts on employment are also examined. The results show that some services industries are more susceptible than others to recessionary downturns in the economy.

Statistics Canada's annual Economic Conference provides a forum for the exchange of empirical research among business, government, research and labour communities. The conference is also a means to promote economic and socio-economic analyses while subjecting existing data to critical assessment as part of an ongoing process of statistical development and review. This year's theme was Innovation in an Evolving Economy. At the May 6-7, 2002 conference there were 12 presentations, based directly on the analysis of Science, Innovation and Electronic Information Division (SIEID) data. The Population Ecumene Census Division Boundary File contains a generalised population ecumene based on 2001 Census population density data with at least one ecumene polygon for every census division (CD). It can be used to produce small-scale thematic maps of statistical data. A number of changes related to Licenses and Registration, Farm Inventories, Land Transfer Taxes, Spectrum Charges and Trade have been incorporated into the Provincial Economic Accounts. These changes have been incorporated into the affected series back to 1981 and are consistent with those changes which have been incorporated in the National Income and Expenditure Accounts since May 31, 2002.
