This study examined geographic variability in the incidence and mortality of breast cancer among females in Canada, using data from the 2021 Canadian Cancer Registry (breast cancer incidence) and the Canadian Vital Statistics – Death database (breast cancer mortality). Age-standardized incidence rates (ASIRs) and age-standardized mortality rates (ASMRs) per 100,000 females per year and their rate ratios were calculated, as well as age group-specific and age-standardized stage-specific incidence rates, and examined across provinces and territories, community sizes, and peer groups (i.e., clusters of health regions with similar socioeconomic and demographic characteristics).

    Description: Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in Canada. Breast density substantially influences breast cancer risk and mammography performance. However, OncoSim-Breast, a Canadian microsimulation model representing breast cancer control, including cancer onset, screening, and survival, has not previously explicitly accounted for breast density. This study describes the incorporation of density-specific parameters—prevalence, relative risk of breast cancer, and digital mammography performance (sensitivity and specificity)—using data from five Canadian provinces, into the OncoSim-Breast model. Calibration experiments and internal validations were conducted to ensure the updated OncoSim-Breast model aligned with observed data from the Canadian Cancer Registry.

    Description: In this follow-up QGIS tutorial on visualizing vector data, we’ll cover rule-based symbologies and labelling schemes, available symbology file formats and creating advanced labels with expression syntax. Follow along as we develop rule-based styles and symbology files with the CPRoads layer – creating a dynamic visualization of different road classes that changes with the scale of the map canvas. Rule-based symbologies and labels are incredibly powerful in creating advanced visualizations – enabling the specific parameters (e.g. fields, symbols, sizes, colours, outlines, and rendering scales) to be targeted for different features. A complementary skill is exporting these styles with available symbology files – which can be independent (.qlm) or directly tied to a source layer (.qlr). These pre-defined visualization files enable layers to be rapidly visualized when opening a new project. They can also be applied to other layers with common visualization parameters (i.e. fields and attributes), such as those from a different collection period or location, and facilitate sharing visualization styles with others. Finally, we’ll discuss the available label parameters (e.g. placement, scale, buffer, formatting) and discuss creating advanced labelling schemes – specifically showing the procedures for creating multi-field labels with the Field Calculator and conditional labels using expressions.

    The Longitudinal Immigration Database (IMDB) is a comprehensive source of data that plays a key role in the understanding of the economic behaviour of immigrants. It is the only annual Canadian dataset that allows users to study the characteristics of immigrants to Canada at the time of admission and their economic outcomes and regional (inter-provincial) mobility over a time span of more than 35 years. The IMDB includes Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) administrative records which contain exhaustive information about immigrants who were admitted to Canada since 1952. It also includes data about non-permanent residents who have been issued temporary resident permits since 1980. This report will discuss the IMDB data sources, concepts and variables, record linkage, data processing, dissemination, data evaluation and quality indicators, comparability with other immigration datasets, and the analyses possible with the IMDB.

    The IMDB was released in stages. The sections 2.2 and 7 of this report were revised to take the updates into account.

  • By relevance is only needed or beneficial when you use the search box and submit a search query. Results are ordered by a combination of where the search term appears in the content, e.g., if it appears in the title, it likely means the product is more relevant to your search; how up to date or new the content in the product is; how popular the product is; and other factors.
  • By title – sorts results alphabetically.

How do I use the filters and the search box?

  • You can initiate a search by entering keywords or selecting filters (e.g., under Subject, Geography, etc.) on the left side of the page.

  • Filters can be used together or in any combination. Each time you select a filter, the results on the page are updated.

  • To start a new search, click on the Clear all button above the search box or deselect each filter.

  • Specified keywords and filters appear above the search box. You can deselect any or all the tags to refine or clear your search.

How do I refine my search?

  • You can enter keywords in the search box. It is not necessary to use “+” or “, “ or “AND”.

  • You can delete some or all of the keywords from your search string.

  • Quotes around keywords limit the search to a specific phrase.

    • For example, “labour force survey” will limit results to products containing this phrase.

  • Use “or” between keywords to obtain results that contain one or more search terms.

    • For example, labour or­ force or survey will limit results to products containing any or all of these words.

How does the search work?

  • This search looks for results that have your query term in the title, description, subject, geography, product number or other information about the product.

    • For example, when searching the term ‘Diseases’, all results with the word ‘Diseases’ in the title, description or tagged the subject appear.

  • The text within an article or publication are not searched. For full text searching of articles, use the site search.
