Description: The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) has two primary aims: (1) to better distribute economic immigrants across the country and (2) to address specific economic needs of the provinces and territories. In 2015, Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada introduced the Express Entry (EE) system to manage applications for federal economic immigration streams, and some PNP applicants are screened through the EE system. Understanding the differences in human capital characteristics and labour market outcomes between EE provincial nominees (enhanced PNs) and regular (base) PNs can inform policy discussions regarding potential ways of improving the PNP and the coordination between federal and provincial immigration programs.

Description: Accurate and ongoing assessments of physical activity (PA) and sedentary time (SED) are needed to support public health surveillance, evaluate interventions, and advance the understanding of how movement behaviours relate to health. After six cycles of data collection (2007 to 2019) using the Actical (AC) accelerometer, the Canadian Health Measures Survey (CHMS) transitioned to the ActiGraph wGT3X-BT (AG). The AC and AG accelerometers differ technically and mechanically in how they measure movement behaviour outcomes such as SED, light PA, moderate-to-vigorous PA, and step counts. This study compares AC and AG accelerometer estimates of these movement behaviour outcomes, to determine whether these data are comparable across CHMS cycles.

  • Articles and reports: 82-003-X202600200002
Description: Critically high numbers of poisoning-related deaths, also known as acute toxicity deaths (ATDs), occur every year in Canada, with the number of deaths attributed to accidental drug poisonings having increased dramatically since 2016. Research about the age, sex, and geographic location of people dying of acute toxicities in Canada show that some populations are disproportionately affected. However, national-level information about decedents’ socioeconomic characteristics remains limited. This study identifies populations facing higher (or lower) rates of ATDs, based on age-standardized mortality rates, relative to a comparison group, using integrated Canadian Census Health and Environment Cohort data.
