Health region peer groups, 2024
Released: 2025-10-02
Today, Statistics Canada is releasing the publication "Health Region Peer Groups: Working paper, 2024." This paper presents the classification of the 2024 health regions into peer groups based on similar socioeconomic determinants of health, such as low-income prevalence and unemployment rate. This classification covers all provinces and territories.
By grouping health regions with similar socioeconomic profiles, peer groups enable more accurate comparisons of the relative effectiveness of health promotion and prevention activities from data such as the Canadian Community Health Survey.
The purpose of this paper is to define the concept of health region peer groups, provide an overview of how they are created and demonstrate their usefulness.
