Canadian international trade in services, September 2024
Released: 2024-11-05
Canada's monthly international trade in services deficit narrowed from $1.4 billion in August to $1.2 billion in September. Overall, exports of services increased 1.6% to $17.2 billion, and imports of services were up 0.3% to $18.4 billion.
Exports of commercial services were the main contributor to the overall increase, rising 1.9% to $11.3 billion in September. Exports of travel services (+1.0%) and transportation services (+1.0%) also increased during the month.
Imports of commercial services were up 1.2% to $10.1 billion in September, mainly because of higher payments for financial services. Imports of transportation services declined 2.9% to $2.9 billion.

Total imports of goods declined 0.4% to $65.1 billion in September, and total exports of goods edged down 0.1% to $63.9 billion. This resulted in a narrowing of the goods trade deficit from $1.5 billion in August to $1.3 billion in September. Combined, the trade balance for goods and services amounted to a deficit of $2.5 billion in September.
