Stocks of frozen and chilled pork in cold storage facilities were stable as of October 1, 2023, compared with July 1, 2023, though they were down 0.8% when compared to October 1, 2022.

As of October 1, 2023, stocks of frozen and chilled beef were down 4.4% compared with July 1, 2023, possibly because of increased beef exports in the third quarter of 2023 compared with the second quarter. In addition, stocks of frozen and chilled beef were down 24.7% from October 1, 2022. Lower cattle slaughter in the third quarter of 2023 compared with the same period in 2022 may have contributed to this decrease.

At the national level, Quebec held 47.9% (37 422 tonnes) of the stocks of frozen and chilled pork as of October 1, 2023, while Ontario held 49.8% (15 004 tonnes) of the stocks of frozen and chilled beef.
