In 2021, the top five baby names in Canada were Noah, Liam, William, Leo and Benjamin for boys and Olivia, Emma, Charlotte, Amelia, and Ava for girls.
This information and more can be found with Statistics Canada's new Baby Names Observatory. This data visualization tool allows the user to view the popularity of baby names over time for Canada. The tool displays the top 20 baby names by selected year for both boys and girls. It is also possible to search for a particular first name by sex at birth to see the historical evolution of the first name in terms of frequency, the proportion of children with the chosen name and the annual rank.
The new table First names at birth by sex at birth, selected indicators (17-10-0147-01), which provides the data for the interactive web application, is also available.
