Data from the Northern Canada Internet Use Survey (NCIUS) are available upon request.
NCIUS data were collected from July 2021 to December 2021 from individuals 16 years of age and older, whose usual place of residence is one of many communities in the three northern Canadian territories. The following groups are excluded: 1) residents living outside the communities included in the survey; 2) people who work in the North but whose usual place of residence is outside the three territories; 3) people living in institutions (e.g., penal institutions, hospitals, nursing homes) for six months or longer; and 4) full-time members of the Canadian Armed Forces.
Data from this survey provides information on a wide range of Internet-related topics, such as access to the Internet at home and through a mobile data plan; type and speed of home Internet connection and connectivity issues experience; specific uses of the Internet, such as interaction with government online services, working or earning money online and online shopping (electronic commerce); impacts on Internet use from the COVID-19 pandemic; and information on the demographic and socioeconomic characteristics of the population.
Note to readers
Some highlights from the 2021 Northern Canada Internet Use Survey (NCIUS) will be released in StatsCAN Plus during summer 2022.
The NCIUS, a pilot version of the Canadian Internet use survey, was produced for the first time in 2021 to collect information regarding the quality and reliability of the Internet in the three northern Canadian Territories.
