Capital expenditures in the oil and gas extraction industries rose 3.8% to $6.9 billion in the fourth quarter. For the full year, capital expenditures totalled $24.6 billion, an increase of 17.1% from $21.0 billion spent in 2020.

Capital expenditures are the gross expenditures on fixed assets, including exploration and evaluation, for use in the operations of an organization or for lease or rent to others.
Revised capital expenditure data for the oil and gas extraction industries will be published on June 1, 2022.
