The 2022 Version 1.0 of the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) Canada is available today. NAICS Canada 2022 Version 1.0 replaces NAICS Canada 2017 Version 3.0.

The changes brought to NAICS for the 2022 version are made to account for the changing economies of Canada, the United States and Mexico. The classification revision includes structural changes, clarifications of titles and definitions, and changes to examples and exclusions.

Among the most notable changes are those relating to the digital economy, including services delivered via digital intermediaries. This revision brings significant changes to the broadcasting, publishing and retail trade industries. In addition, new national industries were created for Indigenous governments.

NAICS is jointly developed by three agencies: Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía (Mexico's national statistics agency), the Economic Classification Policy Committee of the United States, acting on behalf of the Office of Management and Budget and Statistics Canada. The goal is to provide a consistent framework for the collection, analysis and dissemination of industrial statistics used by policy analysts, academics and researchers, the business community and the public.
