Today, Statistics Canada is releasing two research papers entitled "Labour market outcomes of journeypersons designated as visible minorities" and "Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the skilled trades: Canada Emergency Response Benefit." These two studies of certified journeypersons in the skilled trades are based on data from Statistics Canada's Education and Labour Market Longitudinal Platform.
Using data from the 2016 Census, "Labour market outcomes of journeypersons designated as visible minorities" examines outcomes, one year after certification, of journeypersons designated as visible minorities who received certificates in the skilled trades between 2008 and 2017. The second paper, "Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the skilled trades: Canada Emergency Response Benefit," examines the take-up rates of the Canada Emergency Response Benefit in the early months of the pandemic, highlighting the differing impact on men and women, across trades, by geography and on different population groups.
