Production and value of ranch-raised pelts, 2019 and 2020

Data for 2020 come from the Annual Fur Farm Survey - Mink and Fox. In an effort to reduce response burden, data for the 2019 Annual Fur Farm Survey - Mink and Fox were not directly collected from fur farms. Data for 2019 were modelled and used as a replacement to survey collection. As a result, 2019 and 2020 data may be subject to revision.

This is the final year of the Annual Fur Farm Survey - Mink and Fox, as the survey will no longer be conducted. A methodology for modelling the data previously collected by this survey is being explored, including the use of administrative data to produce estimates of on-farm supply and disposition of mink and fox. Data collected from these sources may replace, in whole or in part, Statistics Canada's Annual Fur Farm Survey. This approach is in line with the AgZero initiative underway at Statistics Canada, which aims to produce high-quality estimates using modelling, administrative data and other non-traditional survey-based approaches.

Data on the number and value of farm-raised pelts will be released at a later date, when available.
