Data on the seeded area of potatoes are now available for 2021. Seeded area estimates for Quebec and the total for Canada will be revised at a later date, when data become available.
Potato farmers planted 378,624 acres (153,224 hectares) of potatoes in 2021, up 5.3% from 2020. Seeded area increased as a result of the demand for processing potatoes returning to pre-pandemic levels as well as company growth and product line expansion.
Note to readers
Seeded area for Quebec and the total for Canada will be revised at a later date, when data from the Institut de la statistique du Québec become available. A five-year average was used to produce Quebec estimates in the interim.
