Two new datasets from the rapid response component of the Canadian Community Health Survey – Annual Component are now available. The first rapid response dataset is on the topic of traumatic brain injury and the second on smoking stages of change and tobacco alternatives and vaping.

  Note to readers

The data for both rapid responses were collected from respondents aged 12 and older from all provinces between September and December 2020.

The rapid response on traumatic brain injury asked respondents if they had a concussion in 2019 and, if so, where they were and what they were doing when the concussion occurred. Respondents were then asked how long they experienced symptoms from the concussion and whether they had fully returned to regular activities.

The rapid response on smoking stages of change and tobacco alternatives and vaping asked respondents who were current cigarette smokers about their intentions to quit and recent attempts to quit smoking. An additional series of questions was asked of all respondents to assess the use of alternative tobacco products such as cigars, cigarellos or pipes and included a series of questions on vaping or e-cigarette devices.

The data are now available in the research data centres.

The addition of these questions to the Canadian Community Health Survey was sponsored by the Public Health Agency of Canada (for the content on traumatic brain injury) and Health Canada (for the content on smoking and tobacco alternatives).
