The Commercial and Industrial Machinery and Equipment Rental and Leasing Services Price Index decreased 0.1% in the third quarter, following a 0.9% increase in the second quarter.
Rental prices for construction, transportation, mining and forestry machinery and equipment were unchanged, while rental prices for office and other commercial and industrial machinery and equipment declined 0.1%.
Year-over-year change
The index rose 0.7% in the third quarter compared with the same quarter in 2017.
The increase was driven by higher rental prices for the construction, transportation, mining and forestry machinery and equipment industry (+1.0%). Office and other commercial and industrial machinery and equipment rental prices decreased 0.3%, moderating the annual growth.

The Commercial and Industrial Machinery and Equipment Rental and Leasing Services Price Index (CIMERLSPI) measures price changes of rental and leasing activities for the commercial and industrial machinery and equipment industry.
Data are available at the Canada level only.
With each release, data for the previous quarter may have been revised. The series are also subject to an annual revision with the release of second quarter data of the following reference year. The index is not seasonally adjusted.
The CIMERLSPI combines the North American Industry Classification System codes 53242 and 53249.
